Hmm nearly said 'Staffordshire' until I checked the preview photo on Dropbox.. Now I'm wondering where it could be..

Sadly I won't be in attendance for the meet due to personal health issues but hopefully I will be in good health for the Derby Meet.

I have to confess that the screenshot wasn't actually intended to be helpful :)

Last of the Summer Wine...

re-released Sheffield with the old Woodhead route and Holmfirth branch?

There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

I thought there was a dedicated topic for this sort of speculation so that messages about the actual meet wouldn't get lost in the waffle.

Agreed. That shot of those ground signals reminds me of the image attached to this post. Signals 107 (top left), 108 (lower left), 114 (top right) & 115 (bottom right) at Sheffield station. Attached screenshot taken from the current Sheffield sim.

The track circuits in Meld's screenshot look a bit longer than the paged sim though: wonder if this is more than simply a Loader release...?

Sheffield doesn't have any lines which are "down goods".

If the hint is 'Last of the Summer Wine' country I'm thinking Calder Valley (Wakefield Kirkgate - Healey Mills - Todmorden + surrounding areas eg Halifax, Bradford Interchange).

Definitely won't be Todmorden as thats covered by Preston PSB from outside just outside of Rochdale to the Fringe at Hebden Bridge SB or now York ROC taking in (Smithy Bridge, Littlebrough, Walsden, Todmorden & Hall Royd Jn etc).

I have tried to work out the locations which ruled out Staffordshire Sim and my theories are either Warrington, Doncaster, Leicester, Eastleigh or somewhere completely different as I say these are pure guesses.

Yes Todmorden is Preston PSB, so ok, Hebden Bridge. As the quote hints at Compo and Nora Batty from Last of the Summer Wine though, and as I was never any good at cryptic crosswords, I'll stick with my original punt of the Calder Valley.

Good thought about the Calder Valley although I don't know the layout around those parts so I am sticking with my theory of Sheffield. I wonder if it could be a revamped Sheffield though: as a thought Sheffield PSB closed (according to Phil Deaves' website) on 01-May-2016 to York ROC's control and I had wondered whether someone might one day try and add it to the York ROC suite. Might have involved renaming of a line to Down Goods. The line name could be taken out by using Paintbrush anyway....

Calder Valley would be a good one: Wakefield Kirkgate is certainly a large panel: photos at https://photos.signalling.org/index?/category/640-wakefield_kirkgate

Or maybe we might be surprised and see more than one sim? I will be happy either way. However I will not be at Birmingham as I am spending the weekend in Devon so I will wish everyone a good meet and hopefully see you lot at Derby.

Warrington was already shown at the Preston meet together with Preston itself.

The only clue I'd give would probably allow those of you who either worked for BR or was a rail enthusiast during that time(pre 1994). The freight in the area covered by the sim out weighed the passenger traffic on a scale around 40 freight trains per passenger train.

Now I get it, it could be Calder Valley thinking about it but then something says Doncaster hmm... Guess we will find out tomorrow at sometime..

Me is hoping this 'New Sim' will release along side Staffordshire, Sandhills, West Wales??? Who knows though.

Karl (Headshot119) did post in the meet thread that "at least one new sim will be previewed" so yes we are likely to receive word on more than one new sim. As I'm an East Midlands lad, top of my personal wishlist is Leicester followed closely by Merseyrail's Sandhills (nothing to do with East Mids I know)), but I'll be happy with any of the sims mentioned by other posters.

As far as Sheffield PSB goes, to the best of my knowledge it was a straight recontrol from the old PSB to York ROC, meaning nothing will have changed on the ground. Regarding Sheffield in Simsig, I believe that is just a conversion of the old PSB paged sim to a scrolly version.

Phil.

If it is a 40 to 1 freight/passenger ratio then i am plumping for either Doncaster or Leicester with the former favourite (i.e. Coal).

Now that's a tease Pascal. If you're including all the trips in that 40:1 ratio, with all the coal traffic still around at that time it could be either Doncaster or possibly the Calder Valley (more specifically Healey Mills). Tomorrow is going to be like waking up on Christmas morning :-)

Sheffield and / or Calder Valley would be great but Doncaster would be great as well because it would link a lot of existing sims together. We will have to wait and see.

40:1 would lean me towards Doncaster than Leicester. There was a large amount of coal originating on the Coalville branch but I'd say that was equalled if not surpassed by the large amount of stone traffic from the Leicestershire quarries (Moutsorrel (very busy), Croft, Bardon Hill and Cliffe Hill (later superseded by Stud Farm), but even with trips I'd be surprised if it came close to 40:1. By 1994 Coalville traincrew depot had closed (October 1990 IIRC) with all jobs covered with Toton men (Leicester was a Railfreight Construction depot) and even prior to 1994 the Coalville branch was only really busy from around 0700 - 1900 each day.
