I have sent 6C60 (0216 Didcot TC - Ernesettle Sdgs (DBS Cl66 + 4 VGA, 80m) onto the Tamar valley branch as per Tt. The train took the token staff and then a few minute later reported as having entred the sidings. The message sent through stated that the staff would be replaced but this still has not happened 10 minutes later.

Ah it has finally been replaced after 12 minutes

From memory the staff has to be driven back to St Budeaux before it can be put back in the instrument.

"Passengers for New Lane, should be seated in the rear coach of the train " - Opinions are my own and not those of my employer

Karl is correct.

I cannot remember the time the sim is set to, but you couldn't make that journey by road in ten minutes in real life.

As a resident of this area of Plymouth I'm afraid I have to disagree with you.

Knowing the area well (and having driven the route many times myself, minus the bit inside the MOD base of course), I can confirm that if the road vehicle left the base via the southern exit (passing under both the Tamar and Royal Albert bridges) it would then take no more than five minutes at the VERY most to drive along Wolseley Road to the station. I do it in two minutes.

I can run from the Royal Albert Bridge to St Budeaux Victoria Road station in seven minutes!

Twelve minutes suggests the van driver either took the stupid long way round via Ernesettle Lane and the A38 roundabouts, or stopped off at the pasty shop on the way ...

I did the same exact journey with the staff last year to FPL test the ground frames and whilst I agree the road journey isn’t ten minutes (at least at the right time of the day) when you factor in walking from the train to the access gate at Ernesettle and then to the staff cabinet at St Budeaux the time increases hugely.

This is starting to sound like the bit of timetabling I once saw that gave 1 minute for a train to travel 270m at 10mph (loop entrance to far end of the loop), start-to-stop. Works fine as long as one assumes instant acceleration...

When the sim was under test the conclusion was the average time that the staff takes to get returned was about right.

My timings did leave out the amount of time it takes to walk from the groundframe to the car, and then get to the exit gate, to be fair.

I reckon ten minutes is about right from groundframe to instrument at St. Budeaux VR.
