Exmouth Junction Wrong Route Bug 05/05/2019 at 12:27 #118096

While hosting Exeter with the 5 day 1981 timetable last night a bug was found with details below:

2B57 06:40 Exeter St Davids to Honiton

This train although is timetabled for Honiton, if wrongly routed to either Exmouth or Exmouth Junction Depot's Headshunt will still take the wrong routes without querying it.

Note that in order to get it to Honiton as it took the wrong route to Exmouth instead as the host I had to stop the train and get the driver to change ends to drive back to Exmouth Junction and stop at the Limit of Shunt at Exmouth Junction before instructing the driver to again change ends to regain the correct route to Honiton.

Now as far as I am aware as the train had Honiton in the timetable as a booked location, surely the driver ought to have phoned in and queried the route?

Also please note that any train booked for Honiton if wrong routed to Exmouth will not query the wrong route and will take it regardless.

I'm running Loader V4.11 and Exeter V5.4 if that helps?

by normally do you mean you routed it wrong and it called and queried the route?

Yes, which is why I believe it is a bug because if you noticed my post I did also say that Exmouth trains which wouldn't be booked Pinhoe in any case will take the route to Honiton if given hence why it is a bug as far as I know.

Perhaps a little explanation about how SimSig handles wrong routes might clarify the problem.

In the real world, a driver knows where he/she is due to go and will stop and ring the signaller if sent to a wrong route. That is not how it works in SimSig. The SimSig code in regard to wrong routes has data entered for the junction, not for the train/timetable. For example, in the Exeter sim the developer might add data to the coding for Cowley Bridge Junction so a train for Tiverton/Taunton signalled to Barnstaple would raise the wrong route error message and vice versa. It is an individual piece of work for each junction and which is added at the developer's discretion.

In the case in point in this thread, it looks as if the developer has not put any wrong route data into the set up for Exmouth Junction so there is no information to cause the sim to show a wrong route message for any train or route at Exmouth Junction. Stephen Fulcher has raised a report on the bug tracking system to indicate that there is no wrong route information and perhaps this should be added at this particular location.

Any information in the TT for a train will not cause a wrong route message unless the developer has added the wrong route data to the junction so there is nothing further the TT writer or the signaller using the sim can do until/if the wrong route data is added.
