We've all been inundated with emails, alerts, news, and other forms of information about COVID-19 and most go unread, so I won't bore you here by repeating what you already know. But suffice to say, we at SimSig are relatively unaffected thankfully. The web server is running at around 15% higher usage over the last few days compared to the first half of March but we still have plenty of capacity.

Sadly the Peterborough meet had to be cancelled but we are aiming to have a virtual meet in some way - see this thread for the planning of that. Besides that, please do think about hosting some games. If you need help, post in the forum - it is also busier now so you should get replies quickly.

We are also thinking of other ways you can help. While we have a group of testers already, there may be an opportunity to help out with testing some re-releases, probably in the form of more players play-testing a sim in controlled conditions. If we proceed with this I'll post in this thread.

Given that many people are now stuck at home, we would like to offer a discount for new purchases starting today, available for everybody. Use discount code SPRING20 to get 20% off any payware simulation. This is more than the multibuy (15%) discount, so use SPRING20 instead. At the moment this code will last for about two weeks.

Stay safe, wash your hands, keep your distance, don't go out unless necessary. We can get through this together!

Greetings Geoff,

I hope you and your family are unaffected by this miserable virus and will continue to be so. I would also be happy to help with testing any re-releases if asked to do so.

With good wishes,
Dave

I bought Staffordshire last Monday because the coronavirus effects kicked in some days earlier in the Netherlands than they did in the UK - I have already been mostly stuck at home, and out of work, since last weekend. Would it be possible to apply the discount retroactively in this case?

I currently own all the payware sims (apart from the Ozzie ones, I admit). Can I have a fiver in the post?

Geoff,
I too would be pleased to assist with some testing whilst HMG tries to keep us cooped up!
Best wishes to you and your family.

Count me in for any required testing. While I'm still working (from home), not having travel to work gives me quite a bit more time to myself.
I have previously (long time ago) done some testing for Clive (I believe it was on the Cambridge sim).
I can possibly assist otherwise (IT infrastructure guy with lots of programming experience).
Kind regards, and all keep well. Be safe.

With with recent announcement does any developer fancy releasing any new sims now even if it’s a beta version.

I honestly don't think the boss would allow it, standards to maintain etc. A rushed release of a sim can do more harm than good to the overall product

Even a Beta can drop something horrendous on your lap which can make it unplayable.

not to mention when the dev fixes a problem and creates three more in doing so!

No. There is plenty of scope within the current testing framework for the usual processes to continue for new sim development.

Cheers

I am hoping to release one or two new timetables that are 'nearly there'.
This is not the Motherwell and CSCOT 1984's that have just been put in, those are minor tweaks to the existing timetables.

I would have thought all developers and testers have more important things on their minds like keeping their family safe and well than concentrating on SimSig productions at the moment

Stay safe ppl

NO, not in any shape or form do I think betas being released as you've suggested are a good idea as 1. There already exists a group of qualified people called testers who's main purpose in the world of SimSig is to try to break the sim in development and for the developer to try to fix the sim in development in a nutshell and 2. SimSig has had for a long time a highly earned reputation for it's products and releasing a sim that has only reached Beta and is nowhere near finished will do much damage to the SimSig brand.

For those reasons alone, I think it is a terrible idea!

For the Powers to be; please note if need be you are more then welcome to use my hosted sessions for development reasons, this includes both Timetables and Sims in Development (The Beta sim in development to be chained to my public ones if need be) I am always happy to help in any way I can.

Now all the formalities are out of the way, I hope everyone is keeping safe as can be and looking after each other.

I've also taken advantage of the very generous offer to purchase a simulation with a large discount, as I'm sure many others have done.
So I have now added Manchester Piccadilly to my collection.

Thanks to those who made this possible

First new one now out: Cowlairs 1984.
Single player loco hauled era at Glasgow Queen St. with the same workings as used on CSCOT.
Also I updated the 1993 and 2016 timetables, but only for trivial bits.

Seeing as there's a discount offer, what's people's opinions of motherwell as a single player sim? It seems rather large even with ARS to assist. Mainly focussed on running the 1984 timetable rather than the modern.

You occasionally have to stop and evaluate at least I do with 1980s timetables

I run it with the 1984 TT (awash with freight) with ARS disabled Joe. It is very busy, and just occasionally I slow it down a little below 1:1, but it is not at all impossible.

There's the 'holiday' version of 1984 to get you going which is certainly fine for one with ARS, then once you have the hang of that try 'full' with all the trip workings.

I am OK running the 'full' 1984 - but I wrote it and used 'perfect' scenario ! Autosave at 30 minutes though.
We will also have a 1993 timetable 'quite soon'.

I've offered to help with testing many times in the past and it's always fallen on deaf ears. I have nearly of the sims (multiple copies in some cases, but that's another story) and spend far too may hours in Simsig. It must be many thousand hours by now. That's unlikely to change so it would be good if I were actually helping at the same time.
