I'm currently playing the re-released 1993 timetable for this simulation and at the moment I seem to have 1B15 11:32 Dundee to Edinburgh stuck at Ladybank.

The status of the train in question just shows the above error in the title so what has happened to make it show it?

The ARS status says unknown and it's currently 3 minutes late, I've left the most recent save below and the next to last save too together with a screenshot to show what the sim is showing.

If anyone does know what's happened and what I can do at my end, it would be very much appreciated.

From the save with fault, I got it going again by instructing 1B15 to shunt forward.
It then performed station duties at Ladybank and went on its' way.
So it has got into an error immediately before "1B15 arrived Ladybank on time".

Running the save from 1140 was Ok for me, I could not repeat the problem.

Okay so any idea why I got the error in the first place?

Did I do something wrong?

Sorry, no idea on how it got like it.

Can you run from your 1140 save and get 1B15 through OK ?

Had you run from a different save to the 1140 that you posted ?
I wonder if a 12:00 save maybe caught 1B15 just arriving and there is something that can go wrong there ?

Had you just updated loader ? (unlikely the 1993 TT is more recent than any loader changes).

I've an idea where something happened, but what version of the Loader were you using?

I've just loaded up the 1140 save and 1B15 behaved itself as in it performed as it was meant to.

I'm running the most updated loader that I'm aware of, the only issues with the McSims is that my Edinburgh and Central Scotland saves for the MP sessions I and Elltrain3 have been hosting come up to say there may be issues as they were first saved on one version of both simulations and of course once updated, the saves may or may not work as expected.

I then went back to my 1993 save that I encountered the issue on and I told the driver to shunt forward, lo and behold it seems to reset the train in the sim and it carries out the station duties as it's meant to.

Loader 5.6 Edinburgh 5.3 according to the simulation if that helps, it's just I don't think I've ever come across this kind of error and I've been playing SimSig since Kings Cross was available as a paged sim!

Thanks. The reason the version is important is because of the addresses stored in the SSG file - they point to a different place in source code every time the Loader is updated. From this, I know it's something to do with the train being delayed, and the crossing immediately after the station, and possibly something to do with strings. But that's as far as I've got.

Nothing you've done wrong anyway.

From memory, that error usually means you've tried to get the first character out of an empty string.

We think it might have been a null pointer, though the save file suggests otherwise. All I can think is that something changed between the save file being made and the exception occurring. We'll make some minor adjustments to check for a null pointer but beyond that it's a bit of a mystery.
