Multiple Messages windows, with separate filters 04/09/2020 at 20:57 #131310

Something I'd love to be able to do is have multiple separate messages windows, each showing different types of message.

Currently I remove every message as soon as I've acted on whatever event it related to, so any messages remaining in the display are serving as a reminder of something I'll need to check (usually "<location> barriers are down"). But this creates busywork as I have to delete lots of messages individually as soon as they come up e.g. "Route unavailable". Can't use "remove this and all above" as that would remove the ones I want to keep as reminders.

If SimSig had this feature, and depending on the route, I'd probably set up a configuration like this:
- Level crossing messages (which I'd delete one-by-one when the barriers are raised again)
- Train waiting at signal messages (since they're urgent)
- "you misclicked, dummy" messages like "Via buttons are mandatory on this route" (since they're not)
- All the other messages

Don't actual IECCs act like this? I'm sure I saw somewhere a diagram of an IECC UI, with half a dozen separate areas for different categories of status message

Incidentally, the message box has a bug: if you right-click on a message, then a new message comes in, and you click "delete message", it deletes the new message instead of the one you right-clicked on. Would love it if selecting messages behaved a bit more like Windows File Explorer, with shift-click, ctrl-click, drag-select etc to select multiple messages, the Delete key to delete selected messages in one action, and keyboard input e.g. cursor, Pgup/Pgdn, Home, End to change the selected message(s).

(named for the one in Tasmania, not in Russia)
