|Manchester South fault (19 Sept) 19/09/2020 at 23:00 #132616|
From Gensheet list this morning,
The Manchester South fault is a total failure of that signalling control centre, which started on Wednesday evening 16th and has no firm "fix by" date as yet. It is understood that engineers from Italy have come or are coming over to help out.....
As a consequence, two pairs of routes have been set up through the area with all points clipped and with Emergency Special Working instructions in place. The routes are Prestbury to Adswood Road (south of Stockport Edgeley), for passenger services, and Sydney Bridge/Sandbach to Styal for freight workings. Each of those is operated with only one train in section per direction, so capacity is very limited. The only passenger trains running via Macclesfield yesterday (Friday 18th) were hourly Avanti services plus a Northern local every two hours. Even then, delays of one hour were common.
Some extra trains were run Crewe <-> Manchester Piccadilly on Friday afternoon via Earlestown, these should run again today (Saturday 19th) hourly; booked for a Pendolino. The schedules are in the journey planners.

Originally posted in the wrong thread, but it seems this morning some normality is resuming between Prestbury and Adswood Rd with routes being called and trains being tracked again according to Open Train Times maps. Nothing moving on the Crewe side of things as yet.
There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.
