PD20A is drawn as a distant in rear of a distant with an ERS, which seems a bit strange.

On startup, it briefly dispays a double-yellow before reverting to green.

Neither the ERS nor the Incident Control Panel "Hold at most restictive aspect" change the aspect (nor, in fact, does the passage of a train !).

Is there a module for an "automatic" gate box in Simsig which could be used at Chapel Lane?

(Lest I should seem ungrateful, many thanks to pedroathome and the rest of the team for this Christmas present !)

Jsst a quick note to say yes it's to do with the gate box at Chapel Lane.

I'll provide a greater explanation post turkey.

If you are running with "Show automatic signal aspects" turned on you will see that PD20A shows a double yellow and PD20B shows a single yellow unless PD19 and PD18 are cleared.

If you are running with "Show automatic signal aspects" turned off both PD20A and PD20B will show green, as they are showing "off" as far as the signaller at Parbold is concerned.

The ERS; which is simulated to allow the distant signals to be maintained at caution during a block failure, does replace both signals to there most restrictive aspect as far as Parbold box is concerned (YY - Y), and the drivers will react to that in the sim if defensive driving rules are programmed in. The brief glimpse of double yellow is the simulation working through the draw data to decide how to draw the signal on the screen.

In reality PD20B can in effect show red, yellow, green in semaphore form (Protecting Chapel Lane Crossing and acting as an inner distant for Parbold) and PD20A can show yellow, double yellow, or green (Acting as Chapel Lanes Distant and an outer distant for Parbold).

There is no core code module which could accurately represent the working of Chapel Lane as it works in reality, if in the future something is implemented then we can look at updating the simulation. Though I am reliably informed the crossing is only busy for the school run, the work run, and on bin day when the bin lorry turns up.

Karl, thanks for the clear explanation.

The effect you describe is normally that of "Panel signals" and not "Show automatic signal aspects", which shows automatics as grey (or am I dreaming?).

I've put the laptop away so I haven't got it to hand to confirm, but off the top of my head...

What we've simulated is a mix of a repeater signal; Parbold doesn't really care that one of them can show a red, and an automatic stop signal as it also protects the crossing at chapel lane. Custom draw data has been used to simulate what the Parbold Signaller would see rather than from the perspective of the crossing keeper at Chapel Lane. It's a mixture of automatic Signals and repeater Signals which leads to the affect as you allude.

Another similar situation will arise if the Cumbrian Coast is ever simulated. I don't sign that far down but I think that Limestone crossing box home is also the distant for silecroft on the down.
