Timetable validation : Key locations vs modern WTT 30/12/2020 at 21:48 #135656

I'm having a go at making a timetable based on the latest WTT which includes trains running all days of the week (via a decision) for North Wales Coast (not a particularly busy sim, so given the fact this is my first try at doing something like this then seems appropriate).

However, I have come upon a slight problem: the sim requires times at Rockcliffe Hall and Holywell Jn for validation although these locations are apparently not used as timing points for passenger services on the latest version of the WTT (they are present in WTT CF01 in both directions, but there is not a single time indicated for any of the passenger services [see example] - this does not appear to be a problem for WTT freight trains (which are in book CZ11) as both locations are indicated and timed there).

I have looked through the game manual but there is nothing noted about timetabling in this regard except for some locations (grounds frames) which cannot be timetabled to.

I am currently stuck with taking/guessing/extrapolating the times from Real Time Trains (ex. 5D02, the first train in the morning) or the like. I assume (short of putting the train in the sim and timing it) this would be the only solution for this?

The reason for the lack of timing points in real life is Rockliffe Hall as a signal box & Crossovers has vanished since its upgrades to the Cardiff ROC, and Holywell Junc has also been abolished and its loops removed so is no longer a timing point.

So yeah that seems the main option!

Rockliffe Hall was on the fringe form Chester PSB (Where the signals go from colour to grey)
and Holywell Junc was between Flint & Mostyn East Junc so as you can see has been ripped up/

Indeed, as have all of the other boxes between Llandudno Jn and Chester. I wonder then why the freight trains still have both of these "locations" timed.

Cheers,

Alex

Edit: Yes I was aware of the layout change (though the WTT, as you can see, is apparently not)

Edit 2: Oddly enough, the OpenTrainTimes diagram still has the crossovers (look at Flint) - I'll take a look at the sectional appendix to see what it says on that

Edit 3: Sectional appendix (relevant page appended here) indeed has the locations; the tunnel is there but the crossovers are now identified as "Fflint Junction" (note the Welsh spelling). Holywell Junction is indeed entirely off the map. In any case, useful information to keep in mind for anybody making a modern (post-2018) timetable. I don't know how much of a smaller headway the new signaling allows; in any case an update to the layout is probably not forthcoming.
