I saw an advert for the above book series in this month's railway magazine. They look interesting, but at £30 a pop the full series would be quite an investment. Has anyone here read them, and if so, what did you think of them?

I do own volumes 1, 2 & 4 in this series, they do cover the subject in great detail, anybody with a deep interest in railway signalling will enjoy them.

I have all 5 volumes:
1: Broad Survey
2: Telegraph/Absolute BLock/Singles
3: Freight Marshalling Yard Operation, Control and Signalling.
4: Level Crossings
5: Train Detection and Control

Very informative books well worth the money. If you have an interest in the development of Railway Signalling and interested in how it came about and works, these are for you. Bear in mind they are more technical than the usual "Rail Enthusiast" books.

Retired Professional Railwayman (1981-2023); Pway & S&T (1981-88); Former Signalman/Signaller/ Signalling Trainer (1989-2023) [AB, TCB, Mechanical, NX, WestCad, Hitachi SARS]; Railway Historian (esp.SER, LCDR); Member of The Permanent Way Institution..

My early reading material came from the IRSE. Well recommended, though a little pricey for non-members.
