Looking at some maps, and triangulating back (if you can call it that when I have one point to guess from) then I'd say it was taken whilst travelling between Tygwyn and Talsarnau stations (or vice versa) But if I'm wrong here I think I'll leave it to someone with a better idea rather than just throwing more wild guesses at it.

Yes. The GPS position is only about 300m beyond Craigendoran station, so that's what I put it down as.

Thanks for the compliment. Given that many were taken through dirty windows, they went better than I could have hoped. But I was careful not to give you one of the many photos of lineside trees and bushes that appeared just as I pressed the shutter on a great shot.

Any Welsh lingusits able to compare this sign to the more common Welsh versions of the same ?
Had a quick Google hurl down the Cambrian and all those are different Welsh 'STOP' not 'STOPIWCH' and the other text is different as well. https://goo.gl/maps/momtusqgSZ45BZW86

4: not Harlech. I did find it in exactly one Google Street Map picture, so you may need to find other ways of locating it.

The scores on the doors ...

Tempest Malice is the clear winner, with 11 answers (more than a quarter)
Second is Phil-jmw with 6, closely followed by Postal with 5, JC92 with 4, and Hap with 3.
Honourable mentions to Bill_gensheet, elltrain3, Soton_speed, and Steamer with two each.
And the wooden spoons to 9pN1SEAp and Ron_J with one each.

Finally, the two unanswered ones.

Number 4 was Whitland again. The sign is on the unnamed road along the north side of the station, but the dragon only appears on Google Street Map when you're standing on Station Road looking along it.

And number 2 was Sugar Loaf. Not a great photo, but trains weren't stopping there at the time.

Thanks for the quiz which prompted this thread.

Fascinating write up on your web-site. Apart from thinking that it was a good way of laying out the ground rules by taking in the Kyle and Mallaig lines as a part of your honeymoon, just a question about the train round the Suburban Lines at Edinburgh. Would that routing be a way to maintain route knowledge for a potential diversionary route (perhaps from a link that would not be involved with the ECS workings routed in each direction round those lines)? Perhaps someone with the local knowledge can put that one to bed.
