Hello,

The "Overview" part of the Manual says there is no TORR here, but it appears to me TORR is very much alive and kicking in this simulation without an option to disable it. Would it be possible to implement this option, given the fact the route should not have TORR anyway (at least, according to the manual).

Thank you!

It looks like TORR is enabled in Easy mode, but not in Difficult mode. I've not looked at the other options.

Thank you for letting me know. Would it be possible to add the "usual" TORR on/off tickbox so that it can be enabled and disabled regardless of difficulty, please? I would like to stick with the beginner mode but it would be great to have TORR off.

I've logged 35705 on Mantis to see if the option can be changed.

There's several sims that operate this way - 'easy mode' gives extra train describer help and enables TORR. Westbury is another that comes to mind. I'd love to play them with less berths but still have TORR on for example (the more customisation the better) - is it worth logging a ticket against each each sim set up this way? What's the mood around that?

I believe it is the way Peter has done it on his sims

I can't recall the history of this at the moment.

Thanks, so that refers back to copying the Westbury MO (good grief was it really 6 years ago that I did Plymouth).
I went back to Westbury and tracked this formulation down to a first appearance in the data on 7 December 2013, so in the first public release after that. Prior it appears that TORR was always on by default.

After all these years I can only speculate as to what the rationale was. Possibly that Plymouth and Westbury are relatively small Sims and, in reality, there is no TORR so I'll switch it off; but took pity on the beginners. I guess it's one of these tensions between it being a simulation of reality and a game.

I would add that even when not correct to life, TORR makes timetable testing a whole lot faster and easier. From that angle alone would seem worthwhile to retain TORR as an opt-in choice (all sims ?) separate to 'degree of difficultly'

Bill.

An option box that can be ticked/unticked keeps everyone happy. So far, my favourite simulation, apart from Coventry. As a newbie, I find it challenging but manageable, and very rewarding. It would be cool to play "beginner" level but without TORR, as the next step, so I am hoping it will happen.

As an interim workaround, start the sim in Standard mode, go to options (F3) and then Failures tab. Slide all the sliders to the left (None) and change Max simultaneous failures to 0.

Et voila! Easy mode with no TORR.

Although it might work for Plymouth, this is not a full workaround, as Easy Mode changes a few other things that will not be enabled this way. For example, automatic interposing of train descriptions entering at sidings.

However given this thread is specifically around Plymouth and the TORR option, the workaround given by sloppyjag seems to fit quite well. Especially given there's a very limited number of simulations which implement the TORR option via difficulty setting.

While it might void your warranty ;-), TORR can also be toggled on/off by editing the save file (open the save file as a compressed archive, open SavedSimulation.xml, and right near the top you find the setting for TORR).

Looks like there are several ways to achieve a TORR-off scenario. Thank you for these suggestions!
