The manual states:Quote:The warner routes into Carlisle Station platforms may only be used for passenger carrying trains booked to stop at Carlisle or a non passenger carrying train, provided the overlap of the signal is not occupied by a passenger carrying train.This statement is quite ambiguous. I've got the following 3 clarification questions: - Does the overlap restriction specified near the end apply to both kinds of trains, or only to freight trains? - Can a passenger carrying train that is non-stop use the warner route if the overlap is occupied by a freight train, or even at all? - What's the reasoning for stopping passenger trains, but not stopping freight trains, being allowed? If it is related to differences between rolling stock, are ECS services allowed to use the warner routes if they stop at the station? Only a passenger train (classes 1,2 or 5) can use the warner route, provided the train is booked to stop at Carlisle and the full overlap isnt occupied by a passenger carrying train (but it can be occupied by anything else) The reasoning is that passenger trains are easier to stop than a freight train and therefore less likely to overrun. The manual only stipulates that there is the difference for Passenger Trains. That is really fascinating. A warner route implementation that faithfully replicates a (very typical) AB Reg 5 condition (I think it may have become 3.5 after my time?). It would be pretty normal at a major station for an authority to be available for passenger trains. It was by no means uncommon for it to allow a stopping train to be admitted to a platform with the overlap occupied (likewise where there was permissive working, to allow a train booked to call into an occupied platform). Meanwhile, perhaps the most common Reg 5 authority anywhere was "authorised in [clear weather only/in clear weather and in fog or falling snow] for trains not carrying passengers provided the clearing point is not occupied by a train carrying passengers". I don't have a lot of real life experience of warner routes in TCB, but it seemed common for them to available for all classes of train regardless of what was occupying the overlap, a very start contrast to the Absolute Block regulation.
