The hardware that the SimSig website and associated applications run on needs upgrading/replacement. As a result, from around 10pm GMT / 11pm BST the website will be unavailable while we move it to a newer platform. During this time the DNS records will change which is the biggest "unknown" part of the process as it is not in our control - servers around the world propagate the information, and servers looking for our website need to realise it's moved, and this can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. If you anticipate using SimSig during this time, please lock licenses to your machine to avoid any disruption. Apologies for the necessary downtime. We'll provide updates on our Facebook page. The TTL on the record is currently 1800 seconds, so just about everyone should see the service back 3 hours after the DNS is changed, but you also have allow time for the system to be moved across on top. (Will the TTL be reduced in advance btw?) Jamie S (JAMS) Log in to reply |

If I had a pound for every DNS resolver I've seen ignore it I wouldn't touch DNS ever again. But yes, lowering the TTL before a change can help speed things up. Then, when you change your DNS values, the change should propagate within 5 minutes. Of course there will always be some variation but as a general rule this has always seemed to have worked for me. We haven't started the main migration yet but we do have to change some things in preparation for the Main Event. Email notifications, for example, may not arrive until much later, if at all. The website may be down for brief moments (under a minute) a couple of times. We thank you for your patience.

I can download ok, not sure what permissions are needed for the 'Edit' button on 'Details' but I get a 404 for any timetable for any sim (or at least the few I've tried).

Seems a bit stupid having an edit button there at all for all and sundry to click if only the author has the necessary permissions.

It is author *and mods*. Yes visible for all but does 404 for normal users (inc me) if it isn't 'your' timetable Would be nice if greyed, but hardly a show stopper. Log in to reply |
