There are occasions when, for many reasons, two portions of a train which are required to join cannot do so, because they are both in the same, but wrong location.
It would be very helpful to have an option to join the two portions provided that the following rules are met.
1. Both portions are in the same location, for example Platform 3.
2. The portions are in the correct location to each other for the next timetabled move, for example portion A is to the east of portion B.

I imagine that these check are made by the software for automatic joins, and that it might be possible to adapt the software.

This would be invaluable at locations like Bristol Temple Meads when a platform is occupied by a delayed train, preventing its use for by another train which is timetabled for a joining move in that platform.

Providing that both trains are in the same platform it will join. Whether it is the correct platform makes no difference.

The code doesn't make either of those checks. Rather, the trains must both be at the station timetabled for the join and one of them must be heading towards the other one.

If you have examples where they don't join in the right platform, it's probably stopped too far away, so try issuing a "shunt forward" command to one of them.

I Sometimes have a problem on some sims where trains won't join. On F2 the status jumps between 'Waiting for joining train [XXXX]' and 'Stopped at [Station]. Shunting has no effect, and the only thing that works for me is deleting the join move in the WTT and then re-writing it.

Help much appreciated.

Sometimes caused by the TT not 'stepping-up' correctly on journey to the join location for some reason. Check both TDs to make sure the current location is correct.
If not, editing the next/curent location to the join location (F2 train list/right click/Edit TT) may initiate the join. If the train has already arrived and stopped, may need a shunt forward to bang their heads together.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Thanks to all for your comments.

My original posting was caused by a join which was scheduled in Bristol P10 but should have been in P9. No amount of shunting did any good so I shunted both halves to P9 and still no joining was possible. At this point , with most of the Bristol area at a standstill I took extreeme measures and all was well again. I have since completed the simulation wothout any more joining problems, so it was probably my fault or a steppin up problem.

Just a quick final comment.

I have since run through the Bristol 1985 timetable by K Sickelmore again, without any problems. This tends to confirm that it was probably a stepping problem.

Thanks to K Sicklemore for a very enjoyable time table with loads of shunt moves and moments of great congestion.
