Thought I would report a very rare event. A TC failure at Werrington jnc on the down Ketton caused 2 signals to go to danger. (One controlled and 1 auto). I noticed the first affected train stop and then restart at the auto, so I brought up "show auto aspects" and sure enough it was red. The next train went by in the same way, only stopping at the red controlled signal. Any comments??

I thought I had that happen at an auto sig at R with TCF near Huntingdon.

Wondered whether SImSig now models drivers passing red auto signal on their own authority, as in mplay can't ring clients at present.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

That's a good point Andy - I have a vague recollection of seeing this in the forum somewhere?? Of course I am in single user. I haven't done multi for a time, but doesn't the host field all the phone calls from signals? Of course if the driver gets no reply I guess he would be justified in self-authorising.

Phone Calls have gone to the relevant workstation for quite a while now, but host still is the only person who can make calls to shunters (EG Toton on Trent)

No, it does not!

Can anyone reliably recreate this situation of trains SPADing? If so, please let me know how so that I can investigate.

Well it will need someone who can set up a TC failure. In this instance the failure affected the overlap of signal 471, which caused signals 471 and 475 to go to danger. Two trains then passed 471 at danger, only reporting a stop at 475.
I don't know if this is specific to these signals, or something generic (more likely)

Do you mean the overlap of 471, or the overlap of 475, or the track circuit immediately beyond the overlap of 475 (the one that ends at the points)?

If it was the last of these, there's an explanation. When 475 is red for any reason, 471 is approach-released. Unless you were watching closely, you might have missed 471 being yellow for only a few seconds. (Real signalmen miss this as well - read the report into the Farnley Junction collision.)

I think that's a likely explanation - it would explain why trains appeared to creep up to 471 then accelerate past. It's the TC ending at the points which was down.
Thanks for the explanation Clive

You're welcome. You'll see this same behaviour on the fast line as well, for the same reason.

Andy: do you recall any more details of what you saw? I can't think of any special signalling around Huntingdon, but it would help to at least know which track and roughly where so that I can confirm or deny.

On a related matter, I seem to recall that during a Sheffield multiplayer one train appeared to SPAD signal 7 (S7) at Chesterfield, Platform 1. The track circuit in the overlap beyond the signal went red.

Not sure if it was a TCF as I can't really remember the exact details but I do remember it apparently happening and I can recall the questions appearing in the chat box about it.

Anyone else remember this?

In the 2009 release of Sheffield (the first edition with gradients) there was a bug with heavy/long trains overruning station stop points and occasionally even SPADing - Chesterfield is an example of such a location. This (mis)behaviour has now been fixed.
