Perhaps this has been asked before but I couldn't find it on the forum.

But a London Bridge would be nice I guess, especially now the box is on the "to get red off" list.

Is it... I'm not aware of any plans to get rid of it at the mo! We are pesently working towards getting rid of boxes in the East Kent area..

Will be a big job if they do, anyway I thought parts of it are bieng upgraded because of the Thameslink program and the East London line.

The modifications for ELL would be minor, just adding connections in the NXG area.

Considering they are already running test trains from the ELL towards Crystal Palace (and probably West Croydon, too), then the changes for the ELL development have already been made!

Weren't they planning to build a flyover for trains crossing between the southern and eastern regions to remove the conflict at Spa Road?

There are several common conflicts at Spa Road, Trains crossing from Sussex to Kent divisions and vv is one, but also Charing Cross <> New Cross invloves crossing several lines on the flat aswell, as does Canon Street <> FL at New Cross.

There are plans for a grade-separated junction near Bricklayers Arms (I think) as part of the "Thameslink" project, but these are a fair way off. It will allow the (currently) FCC services to get to the lines between the Charing Cross and Cannon Street lines, meaning no flat junction between London Brodge and Waterloo East, increasing capacity on the Thameslink route.

I believe they are also bulding a new viaduct over Borough Market in order to increase the section between London Bridge and Waterloo East to four tracks.

I hear they are also going to double the Blackfriars spur.

Certainly an ambitious project, but if it eases the flow through this notrious bottleneck it'll all be worth it.

Two words: Thameslink 2000
A few more words: It's now 10 years later..... the Borough Market and Spa Road flyovers were planned back then as well. The Metropolitan curve (Cannon Street towards London Bridge / Blackfriars) was going to be turned into two sidings - ie severing the connection currently only used for empty stock movements.

London Bridge station is due to be 'improved' by NR sometime after the 2012 Olympics but the original plans were thrown out by the Planning Inspector as totally unsuitable. NR then had to go through another consultation programme and I'm not sure what the outcomes were. Anyway any SIM of London Bridge would have to be very flexible to accommodate the new Borough Market lines, the proposed terminal platforms and what actually gets built!

I used to travel to work via Blackfriars till they closed the tube station, but I still do it once and a while just to see what's going on. Went that way today and as you pass over where the tube station is you can see the tunnel has been exposed, though covered over with wooden panels so trains still in a virtual tunnel- as it were.

Northern ends of the remaining through platforms have been removed and the station temporarily extended across the bridge, almost to the other side now. You can still exit at the North end but via a raised walkway across the void that was the platform. It’s difficult to see much of what’s going on in the area that was plats 1-3 save that they have been completely removed and they seem to be working on the under-decking at the moment.

I’ll leave it another 6-8 weeks and then pop over and see what’s developed.

I vaguely remember that before the rebuild started, Blackfriars underground did have a small part of the platforms in the open air anyway. The last time I passed through I looked out for the open section, and realised that it's currently covered over; at track level, the platforms are boarded off from the running lines.

I also vaguely remember "Charing Cross to London Bridge" being suggested as a potential subject for a small non-ARS SimSig - but that was quite a few years ago now!

Sounds more of a PCRail size.

I would wonder if they still want to do that now as a couple of weeks ago (on a Sunday) there was some form of engineering works going, at CharingX I believe, which meant all Southeastern trains were being diverted into Cannon Street and they had a shuttle service running every 15 minutes CannonSt <-> CharingX (since the Tube station was closed as per normal on Sunday due to, usually, no services to/from the main line station). This shuttle service was using that curve. I would wonder if Southeastern would object to the changes to this curve since it's useful for this sort of thing (and I have been informed that this sort of thing (the shuttles) has happened before) as well as those ECS moves - which I presume are trains arriving at Cannon Street then running ECS CannoSt - CharingX?

May be PC Rail size but I believe this is the section where 66 minutes' worth of trains are (or were) timetabled to pass in an hour in the peak. More than enough to keep someone occupied, even with the pressent day layout (let's not even think about Borough Martket Jc with the earlier layout).

It was definitely a SimSig proposal; I think it was Geoff who came up with a list of potential future sims. London Bridge was one of them, and it's the only one I can remember.
