A quick update on the Swindon part of my Swindon / Westbury chainable TTs for August 2015.

I tested out one of the Thingley reversing trains this morning before work called me in: the train in question didn't go past signal (SN)72 so it seems that I need to add Thingley Junction into the TTs for the reversing trains instead of using Thingley East Junction as the reversing point.

As it stands I have so far done:
- All ECS movemments
- All expresses from Chippenham to London Paddington, as well as those going the other way.
- All expresses from Bath Spa to London Paddington, via. Bristol TM and Bristol Parkway, but not yet done trains to Bristol
- Swindon to Chippenham shorts
- 6 of the Swindon to Portsmouth trains
- 4 of the trains from Portsmouth / Westbury to Swindon
- 1 train from Swindon towards Cheltenham

So total so far of 102 trains and quite a few more to come. Could be closer to 200 trains after I get the rest put in. I was hoping to do a Bristol TT as well but work is keeping my busy enough that I may not get that one done.

West Hampstead summer 1991 timetable is still under test, but no issues so far resulting in the timetable having to be amended. This is following the conversion of the previous version which worked 100% to a version with UIDs. Once we've gone through the various days of the week under test then this timetable will be passed forward for moderator approval for the downloads section. So bear with it. If anyone else is able to host s test session for this timetable let me know as we can then get through the 4 other days quicker & as a result the timetable will be available for everyone sooner.
Another timetable I've started work on is King's Cross summer 1985(May 1985-September 1985). This version is being written with UIDs, however until such time as Clive comes up with a solution regarding the Day Of The Week seed loco the rules no longer seem to work when the sim loads up. At the moment both the 'seed' trains that run Mondays only are appearing with the 'seed' trains that run Mondays Excepted. This issue being dealt with in another thread.

Just an update to say we haven't forgotten about Exeter - the combination of some new bugs surfacing, plus both of us being busy, have set it back somewhat.

How's the revised Carlisle TT coming along? Slight delay?

I've finished my part of the editing process & now John(Postal) is working through the timetable & re-doing all the shunt moves covered by the 3 station pilots. These pilots cover the station area & deal with all the Joins/Divides as well as some other shunt moves. You'll have to ask him how that's going, but rest assured when this tt is re-released with the new loader version of the sim it should look & feel nothing like the original version. In some ways may prove alot more challenging & in other easier to manage depending on the time & day of the week. I'll lt you know when the task is completed, hopefully not too far away as that's the only remaining bit of the tt that needs finishing.

Taking a bit longer than I hoped due to real life getting in the way. The actual TT writing bits should be done in the next week, but there will be 2 or 3 weeks of testing (at least) after that to try and make sure that it all works as expected. After that it will depend on Tom as the TT is written for a loader version of the sim (which has some differences in locations and fringe entry/exit points) so is not compatible with the current .exe version.

When Carlisle loader and the new 79-80 TT lands I will not be available for social engagements, marital obligations or indeed feeding myself for weeks. Nay, months.

The little bits Pascal has revealed so far have really whet the appetite!!! I've been checking every day for the last few weeks just in case but it seems we might be inching closer!

Thanks for your comments & I hope it doesn't let you down. All the formations of the loco hauled trains are now 100% correct as we have now been available to get copies of the Passenger Train marshalling Books for May 1979 - May 1980 , not only for the LMR, but also for the GE, ER & ScR as well so all the diverted traffic due to the Penamshiel Tunnel collapse are now as these books state & some formations are so out of the ordinary you'd have either have had to have witnessed them in real life at that time to get anywhere near the right formation such as 1S58 2230 ThO Ely - Stirling which is formed of:-
loco+5NJV(GUV)+5NXV((GUV)+BFK(Mk.1 brake)+2SLSTP(Mk.1 sleeper)+3FK(Mk.1 coaches) = 16. You'd be lucky to guess that formation from just the timing load in the WTT. That said John & I are struggling to get one final part of the jigsaw correct & that is the formation of the Parcel trains namely:-

3M07 0337 MX Parcels Stranraer Harbour - London Euston
3M15 2245 SX Parcels Glasgow Central - Nottingham
3M19 1930 SX Parcels Glasgow Parcels Station - London Euston
3M57 1733 SX Parcels Ayr - Carlisle
3S07 0250 EWD Mail Carlisle - Ayr
3S11 2059 MX Parcels London Euston - Glasgow Parcels Station
3S15 2027 SX Parcels Bristol Temple Meads - Glasgow Parcels Station
3S18 (div.) 2038 SX Parcels London KX FT - Edinburgh Waverley
3S24 2350 SX Parcels Nottingham - Glasgow Central
3V05 2053 SX Parcels Glasgow Parcels Station - Bristol Temple Meads
4A14 0305 MX Parcels Carlisle - London Euston
4J29 0305 MO Carlisle - Oldham Clegg St.
4M10 0015 MX Parcels Glasgow Central - Manchester Victoria
4S06 1750 MX Parcels Carlisle - Perth
4S14 19:10 SX Parcels Crewe South Yard - Glasgow Parcels Station
4S16 0513 EWD Parcels Carlisle - Glasgow Parcels Station
4S17 1257 MX Parcels Crewe South Yard - Glasgow Parcels Station
4S19 05:15 MX Parcels London Euston - Stranraer Harbour
6S09 2340 SX Parcels Carlisle - Stranraer Harbour
5M02 1150 MO Empty NPCCS Falkland Jn. - Carlisle Yard - This one is shown as D595, however the ScR WTT staes this train is worked by a Cl.25 & therefore would only be conveying approx. 5 or 6 vans as an educated guess.
The BR oficial books that give details of the formations of these trains are probably the rarest on record as no one I know or John who has asked ex collegues from the Post Office have any MLIs or associated Newspaper train formation books. I only know those I've worked during my time on the footplate & that is on the Midland Main Line. I've even had correspondence from the BR Coaching Stock group on Yahoo pretty much confirm the same thing. So I'm afraid to say at best at the moment these trains are going to be on a 'best guess' basis. The Passenger Train marshaling Books give details of the formations of Postal trains, but not parcel trains. So if anyone out there would have any info on that list of parcel trains & there respected formations please drop either John or me a message & we can then avoid the 'best guess' scenario for these trains. It's annoying to think we've got everything right apart from these trains.

A quick update on my new SwinDid & Westbury TTs for the Bathampton Junction closure.

I have, at this time of writing, only 24 trains left to check of the Oxford & Paddington Local Stoppers as supplied by NZAJ. Once I have done those and inserted the CrossCountry workings and a couple more freights I should have a SwinDid TT of around 500 trains. I already have a volunteer to test it and, if all goes well, the TT will be released.

The WEstbury one will be delayed a bit as I still have to do the Bedwyn workings. I hope to make good time with adding these and will then pass that TT for testing as well. Once all goes to plan I will aim to release both timetables, probably simultaneously.

I also had plans to do a Bristol TT but I am not now sure if this will happen.

With all the other updates, didn't want those waiting for mine to feel left out

Feltham April 2012
Writing completed (about 800 trains) and first initial test completed. A few suspected sim bugs have been found, along with a few minor tt alterations that are required.

Wimbledon April 2012
Writing completed (about 2700 trains) and initial first test has commenced

Horsham April 2012 and Brighton & Lancing April 2012
Writing for Horsham, Brighton & Lancing has begun

All of these will be done when time allows but as with everyone else, work, sunshine and beer seem to get in the way during the summer …although parakeets seem more of a problem than Peter’s pigeons. South London’s exotic don’t you know!

In view of Huddersfield being released I've started today writing a June 1981 - May 1982 timetable for this sim as I have all the Passenger & Freight WTTs for this period. There will be some limitations as the line to Penistone during the early 1980s was double tracked. once that has been done I intend to write a May 1986 - may 1987 timetable for the same sim. These 2 timetables would fit in nicely to 2 other timetables I will do at some point in the future when those sims have ben done.

The current layout is 1993 onwards. Prior to that there was no P2. The penistone line was double track to clayton west box. Trains from penistone had to arrive in P4 and depart from P1. There was also a up loop for recessing freight and two through lines along with a lot more pointwork. Quite a different layout.2

Whilst I agree with what you have posted this is the unfortunate aspect we face in alot of sims. If the layout hasn't been created for the era you want to write a timetable for, then that being the case you have to make do & attempt to write the tt with some slight modifications to make it fit otherwise a timetable written for a sim of an older era can't ever be written for a sim because of that simple fact & there's no guarantee an older era would ever be released. On the other hand there are some sims in production where it goes the other way & a modern era won't be done due to the sim only catering for the historic era the developer wants.

lazzer wrote:

Well this is a sure commercial decision affecting the sale of licenses on sims. I sus[pect that most developers would really like to cover as many eras as possible subject to the amount of info they can obtain for a sim, then it would appeal to almost all SimSig users. However creating sims would take alot longer as they would have more to test & get right before release. in a perfect world I'd personally like to see all sims covering not only modern eras, but eras such as 1980s & 1990s. Some of it may be factored on supply & demand. There are some sims such as Watford & Wembley I've purchased licenses for but have never ever used purely as they cover only the modern era. If someone asked me why buy the licence then I'd say cos the money you spend for the license benefits the SimSig product. If a sim was released for lets day the period between 1960s - 1990s that then would only appeal to those users who prefer playing timetables of that era. I guess its all down to the era you were raise in & what was running on the railways at that time that really influences your tastes. Creating historic timetables takes alot longer that doing it the other way using CIF data transfer. Now whether in time all sims will cover ears they don't when released I suspect is down to whether the developer will ever do that, but also whether they can obtain the necessary paperwork needed to be able to reproduce the sim. That's the main reason why I've been collecting signalling notices since 1985 purely for sims to be produced. Lazzer you could always ask any of the older hand drivers you know in Plymouth & other depots if any of them have any signalling notices dating back to the 1970s/1980s era then if you saved them they in time could be used by a developer to reproduce the era you like best. That's what I did when I started on the railway back in in the mid 1980s & have continued ever since & still get them from time to time today.

That's ok Dave, I have plans to cover the Bristol end. I've yet to finish the Wimbledon 2003 coversion, but I've been collecting the data online before it goes off RTT and have got the stock diagrams together, so will be a few days or weeks before I can start on it.
