Detailed Notes

IMPORTANT: The following is extracted from the Local Instructions for Three Bridges Panel 7, and is provided for interest. Please be aware that the information contained here is not necessary to operate the simulation, and also that there are references to controls and features that are not replicated in the simulation. Information relevant to simulation operation can be found in the earlier sections of this manual.

Area of Control

The area of control covered by Panel 7 starts from a point between Three Bridges and Crawley stations, to a point between Christ’s Hospital and Billingshurst stations along the Down and Up Horsham/Main lines. This distance is approximately 11 miles.

In addition to this, from a point between Dorking and Holmwood stations to Horsham station along the Down and Up Main lines, a distance of approximately 8½ miles. This includes all of the Horsham station area and its associated sidings and loop lines.

The Dorking section of the sim takes over from Panel 7 between Holmwood and Dorking and covers the Dorking station area and the Down and Up main lines to its fringe with Wimbledon ASC at Mickleham Tunnel.

Description of Area

The area of control is of a double track arrangement throughout, with the exception of Horsham and Dorking stations.

Horsham station has the addition of the down and up loop lines, two Down (Branch) Sidings, three Carriage sidings and short Engine Road, there is also a large Terminal Complex yard.

Horsham Junction is located at the London end of Horsham station.

From beyond the London end of Horsham station, two lines, the Up and Down Main lines continue towards Warnham station and beyond.

The Down Platform Loop line platform No.4, together with the Down Main line platform No.3 are each bi-directional lines. Down line trains from Warnham station, are able to gain access to all four station platforms at Horsham station, once they approach from along the Up Main line using the facing crossover between the Down and Up Main lines between Warnham and Horsham stations.

Up direction trains can gain access to either the Up Horsham or Up Main lines from all four station platforms at Horsham station.

A ‘clipped and padlocked’ trailing crossover is provided at the Holmwood end of Ockley station between the Down and Up Main line, this crossover can only be used during an engineers possession of the line.

Dorking station has the addition of a Down Loop giving 3 platform faces, 2 of which are fully reversible as well as a full length electrified carriage siding, accessible from the Horsham end.

Signalling

The method of signalling employed within this area of control is of 'The Track Circuit Block Working System'.

The type of signalling employed within this area of control is that of 2-aspect, and 'multiple aspect colour light signalling' controlled via;

  • Route-relay interlocking remotely controlled via Panel and Interlocking Interface Units (PIIU) in conjunction with the Three Bridges interlocking;
  • Electromechanical miniature relay interlocking controlled via Panel and Interlocking Interface Units (PIIU) in conjunction with the Horsham interlocking in the Littlehaven area
  • Horsham/Three Bridges area Solid State Interlocking (SSI)
  • Horsham/Dorking area Solid State Interlocking (SSI)
  • Horsham/Billingshurst area Solid State Interlocking (SSI)

All signalling between Three Bridges and Faygate stations is controlled from the relay room located at Three Bridges Area Signalling Centre beneath the operating room floor utilising Panel and Interlocking Interface Units (PIIU)

The signalling between Faygate and Littlehaven stations is controlled utilising Panel and Interlocking Interface Units (PIIU)

Each of the stop signals listed above are either 2-aspect, 3-aspect, or 4-aspect signals, and are configured as either controlled, or automatic stop signals, as shown above.

‘Proved’ replacement facilities

The latest signalling design group standards dictate that stop signals provided with the facility to be replaced to danger, need to be provided with ‘proved’ replacement facilities. This means that none of the signalling provided on Panel 7 are that of ‘emergency replacement’ facilities.

The illumination of the associated red signal lamp indication proves that the signal is displaying a danger (red) aspect, and that the aspect can be relied upon for the purposes of Rules and Regulations.

Signals controlled by another Signaller, or Crossing Keeper

BT11, T891/LH5, and T894/LH6 stop signals are each controlled by an appropriate lever within Billingshurst signal box, or the Crossing Keepers located at Littlehaven.

Whilst the appropriate lever is positioned ‘normal’, the signal concerned will be maintained at danger (red)

Once the appropriate lever is positioned ‘revere’, the signal concerned will display the appropriate ‘proceed’ aspect providing all signalling controls have first been met.

These lamp indications, whilst illuminated, inform the Panel 7 Signaller that the appropriate signal lamp for the signal concerned is illuminated, and functioning correctly.

If at any time, these lamp indications are not illuminated, it must be assumed that the appropriate signal lamp has failed.

The failure of a signal lamp will be confirmed by the next stop signal in-rear, not displaying a ‘proceed’ aspect, once ‘cleared’.

Each of the stop signals listed above are provided with ‘clearance delayed’ lamp indications provided on Panel 7.

These lamp indications, once illuminated, inform the Panel 7 Signaller that the signalling interlocking is maintaining the signal concerned at danger, even though a route has been set, until a pre-determined condition has first been met, as described below for the signal concerned.

These lamp indications will illuminate and pulse once the appropriate route has first been set and all controlling track circuits for the signal route concerned are unoccupied, and, for the reasons explained below, the signal is being maintained at danger by the signalling interlocking.

T893 signal

Once a route has been set from T893 signal to T895 signal, one of two conditions will be applied, as described below;

T893 signal will display a ‘proceed’ aspect once the Littlehaven ‘Stopping/non-stopping’ rotary control switch has been selected to ‘non-stopping’, and the ‘confirmation’ push-button has been depressed (the confirmation button lamp will become illuminated) Under these circumstances, the ‘clearance delayed’ lamp indication will remain extinguished.

T893 signal will remain at danger once the Littlehaven ‘Stopping/non-stopping’ rotary control switch has been selected to ‘stopping’, and the ‘confirmation’ push-button has been depressed (the confirmation button lamp will become illuminated) Under these circumstances, the ‘clearance delayed’ lamp indication will become illuminated and pulse.

Once an approaching train closely approaches T893 signal, only at this time will T893 signal change and display a ‘proceed’ aspect. Once T893 signal displays a ‘proceed’ aspect, the ‘clearance delayed’ lamp indication will extinguish.

The second condition explained above, allows for the Automatic Half Barrier level crossing (AHBLC) at Parsonage Road to remain open to road traffic, whilst an approaching down line train stops and calls at Littlehaven station.

T896 signal

Once a route has been set from T896 signal to T894 signal, one of two conditions will be applied, as described below;

T896 signal will display a ‘proceed’ aspect provided there is no train closely approaching T896 signal and occupying ‘MFD’ track circuit between Horsham Junction and T896 signal.

Under these circumstances, the ‘clearance delayed’ lamp indication will remain extinguished.

T896 signal will remain at danger if an approaching train occupies ‘MFD’ track circuit before a route is subsequently set from T896 signal to T894 signal.

Alternatively, if a train has been detained at T896 signal because the signal section ahead has been occupied, then subsequently becomes unoccupied, even though a route has been set. Under these circumstances, the ‘clearance delayed’ lamp indication will become illuminated and pulse. Once T896 signal displays a ‘proceed’ aspect, the ‘clearance delayed’ lamp indication will extinguish.

Because of the close proximity of T896 signal to Parsonage Road Automatic Half Barrier level crossing (AHBLC) The second condition explained above, allows for the road traffic light sequence to initiate, and then for the half lifting barriers to lower before allowing T896 signal to display a ‘proceed’ aspect.

Each of the stop signals listed above are provided with ‘slot off’ lamp indications provided on Panel 7.

These lamp indications, once illuminated, inform the Panel 7 Signaller that the Crossing Keeper at Littlehaven has ‘cleared’ the signal concerned.

Signal Group Replacement Controls

Panel 7 is provided with two Signal Group Replacement controls.

Each of these controls are located geographically on the signalling panel and are provided with a depress/lift button and associated lamp indications.

Horsham North Signal Group Replacement Control

The following signals if cleared will be restored to danger, if not cleared, will be maintained at danger

T834,T836,T837,T838,T839,T840,T841,T842,T843,T844,T846,T893,T885,T896,T897;

PLS T1401,T1403,T1404,T1405,T1407,T1409,T1411,T1413,T1415,T1417,T1419

Horsham South Signal Group Replacement Control

The following signals if cleared will be restored to danger, if not cleared, will be maintained at danger

T843,T845,T846,T847,T848,T849,T850,T851,T853;

PLS T1406,T1408,T1410,T1412,T1421,T1423.

Each Signal Group Replacement button has both a depress and lift function.

Lifting this button will replace to danger all controlled stop signals within that particular signal group replacement area (see the listings for each area as shown above). Once the SSI or group of SSI correctly responds to this action, the associated SSI indication lamps provided nearby will each illuminate.

Depressing this button (once lifted) will return the associated signal group replacement area to a normal state, which will allow route setting to be performed.

Once the SSI or group of SSI correctly respond to this action, the associated SSI indication lamps provided nearby will each extinguish.

Detailed Description

1. Three Bridges

Three Bridges station is located along the London to Brighton main line, and is situated just over one mile from Crawley station. At the Balcombe end of Three Bridges station, along the Down and Up Slow lines, a junction is located, providing access to and from the Down and Up Horsham lines respectively.

Bi-directional lines

The Up Platform Loop line, platform No.1, together with the Up Slow line, platform No.2, and the Down Slow line, platform No.3 are each bi-directional lines.

Three Bridges Panel 4 ‘T’

The next panel that works with Three Bridges Panel 7 along the Down and Up Horsham lines is Three Bridges Panel 4.

Because Panel 7 is an additional panel arrangement, and located separately from the existing panels (Panels 1A to Panel 6),

Emergency Alarms are provided between Three Bridges Panel 7 and Panel 4.

The lines between Three Bridges and Crawley stations are arranged as follows;

Down Horsham line

Up Horsham line

2. Crawley

Crawley station is located just over one mile from Three Bridges station, and just less than 1¼ miles from Ifield station along the down and up Horsham lines. Crawley station is provided with two platforms, the Down Horsham line is platform No.2, whilst the Up Horsham line is platform No.1.

A pedestrian footbridge connects these two platforms to one another.

A trailing crossover T1756 points are located just beyond the Three Bridges end of Crawley station.

T1756 points in conjunction with T624 signal, located at the Three Bridges end of the Down Horsham line station platform,

allows down line trains to start-back from Crawley station towards Three Bridges and beyond.

T1201 position light shunt signal, located along the Up Horsham line beyond T1756 points, allows movements into either the

Down Horsham line station platform No.2, or the Up Horsham line station platform No.1 at Crawley station.

A ‘Limit Of Shunt’ board (LOS) is provided and located along the Up Horsham line platform No.1 at the Ifield end of Crawley

station.

T1755 points lamp indications provided on Panel 7

The Panel 7 Signaller is provided with points lamp ‘detection’ indications for T1755 points located between the down and up

Horsham lines just beyond Three Bridges station.

These lamp indications are displayed geographically on the signalling panel between Three Bridges and Crawley stations.

These lamp indications are provided to inform the Panel 7 Signaller as to the possible reason T621 signal is being held at

danger, once a route has been set by the Panel 7 Signaller.

T1755 points are controlled by the Panel 4 Signaller, however, if both T1753 and T1755 points are positioned ‘reverse’, T621

signal if ‘cleared’ will revert to danger provided there is no train approaching T621 signal.

For this reason, it was decided that the Panel 7 Signaller needs to know the reason T621 signal is being held at danger, once a route has been set.

Under these circumstances, once the Panel 4 Signaller sets a route from T279 signal at the Crawley end of platform No.2 at

Three Bridges, to T621 signal via T1753 and T1755 points reverse, T621 signal will be maintained at danger if not ‘cleared’,

or will revert to danger, if ‘cleared’.

This is done to give a train driver a more restrictive ‘proceed’ aspect whilst departing platform No.2 at Three Bridges station onto the Down Horsham line via T1753 and T1755 points.

Once this train movement has passed T279 signal and approaches T1755 points (reverse), T621 signal will now change to a

‘proceed’ aspect providing all other signalling controls have first been met.

Along the Down Horsham line T621 signal, one route is available;

  • Down Horsham line T625 signal

From the Up Horsham line T1201 position light shunt signal, 2 routes are available;

  • Down Horsham line T625 signal
  • Up Horsham line ‘Limit Of Shunt Indicator’ (LOS)

Along the Down Horsham line T625 signal, one route is available;

The clearing of T625 signal is in addition subject to both Crawley High Street and Horsham Road CCTV level crossings lifting

barriers positioned in the down position and the ‘crossing clear’ control enabled.

  • Down Horsham line T627 signal

Along the Up Horsham line T626 signal, one route is available;

The clearing of T626 signal is in addition subject to both Crawley High Street and Horsham Road CCTV level crossings lifting

barriers positioned in the down position and the ‘crossing clear’ control enabled.

  • Up Horsham line T622 signal

Along the Up Horsham line T622 signal, one route is available;

  • Up Horsham line T620 signal

From the Down Horsham line T624 signal, one route is available;

  • Up Horsham line T620 signal

3. Crawley High Street CCTV Level Crossing

Crawley High Street level crossing is located approximately 220 yards beyond the Ifield end of Crawley station. Crawley High Street level crossing is provided with four lifting barriers (two on each side of the railway), road traffic signals, floodlights, and ‘closed circuit television cameras’ (CCTV) which are connected to a television monitor mounted into the signalling panel, panel 7 at Three Bridges ASC.

The normal position of these barriers is raised; they must be operated without delaying trains.

Protecting stop signals

The two protecting stop signals, T625 and T626 signals, which are located at the approach to Crawley High Street CCTV level

crossing along the Down and Up Horsham lines are controlled via standard ‘entrance/exit’ route-setting buttons on Panel 7.

4. Horsham Road CCTV Level Crossing

Horsham Road level crossing is located just over a ¼ of a mile (484 yards) beyond the Ifield end of Crawley High Street level

crossing.

The normal position of these barriers is raised; they must be operated without delaying trains.

Protecting stop signals

The two protecting stop signals, T625 and T626 signals, which are located at the approach to Horsham Road CCTV level crossing

along the Down and Up Horsham lines are controlled via standard ‘entrance/exit’ route-setting buttons on Panel 7.

5. Ifield

Ifield station is located just less than 1¼ miles from Crawley station, and just over 2½ miles from Faygate station along the

down and up Horsham lines. Ifield station is provided with two platforms, the Down Horsham line is platform No.2, whilst the Up Horsham line is platform No.1.

6. Bewbush Occupation Crossing

Bewbush occupation crossing is located approximately one mile beyond the Faygate end of Ifield station, and approximately 1½

miles from Faygate station along the down and up Horsham lines. Direct-line telephones are provided on each side of the railway lines, connected to the Signaller on Panel 7 at Three Bridges ASC.

7. Kilnwood Occupation Crossing

Kilnwood occupation crossing is located approximately 1¾ miles from Ifield station, ¾ of a mile beyond Bewbush occupation crossing, and approximately ¾ of a mile from Faygate station along the down and up Horsham lines. Direct-line telephones are provided on each side of the railway lines, connected to the Signaller on Panel 7 at Three Bridges ASC.

8. Faygate

Faygate station is located just over 2½ miles from Ifield station, approximately ¾ of a mile from Kilnwood occupation crossing, and just over 2¼ miles from Littlehaven station along the down and up Horsham lines. Faygate station is provided with two platforms, the Down Horsham line is platform No.2, whilst the Up Horsham line is platform No.1.

9. Brooks Lane Bridal Way Crossing

Brooks Lane Bridal Way crossing is located almost one mile beyond the Littlehaven end of Faygate station, 330 yards from

Roffey Road Automatic Half Barrier level crossing (AHBLC), and just over 1¼ miles from Littlehaven station along the down and

up Horsham lines. Direct-line telephones are provided on each side of the railway lines, connected to the Signaller on Panel 7 at Three Bridges ASC.

10. Roffey Road AHB Level Crossing

Roffey Road Automatic Half Barrier level crossing (AHBLC) is located just over one mile from Faygate station, 330 yards from

Brooke Lane Bridle Way crossing, and just over one mile from Littlehaven station along the down and up Horsham lines. Roffey Road AHB level crossing is provided with half lifting barriers, which once lowered only prevent road traffic from

driving onto the level crossing.

Roffey Road AHB level crossing is also provided with Emergency Telephones, one being provided on each side of the railway, and connected to the Signaller on Panel 7.

Public Emergency Telephone System (PETS)

Each of the Emergency Telephones described above, are electronically monitored by the ‘Public Emergency Telephone System’ (PETS) This system continually monitors the integrity of the telephones, and telephone lines. If at any time a fault is detected, the Signaller on Panel 7 will be immediately informed by the monitoring equipment provided on Panel 7.

Protecting stop signals

The two protecting stop signals, T887 and T892 signals, which are located at the approach to Roffey Road AHB level crossing

along the Down and Up Horsham lines are provided with Replacement buttons on Panel 7.

Passing T887 and T892 signals at Danger

Except when Roffey Road AHBLC is in ‘local control’, if it is necessary for T887 and/or T892 signals to be passed at Danger.

When authorising the Driver to proceed in accordance with the Rules and Regulations you must, in addition, instruct the Driver to ‘draw forward’, stop short of the level crossing, and not proceed over it unless it is safe to do so.

11. Littlehaven (Including Rusper Road level Crossing)

Littlehaven station is located just over 2¼ miles from Faygate station, just over one mile from Roffey Road Automatic Half

Barrier level crossing (AHBLC), just over ½ a mile from Parsonage Road Automatic Half Barrier level crossing (AHBLC), and just over one mile from Horsham station. Littlehaven station is provided with two platforms, the Down Horsham line is platform No.2, whilst the Up Horsham line is platform No.1.

Littlehaven (Rusper Road) Manual Gates level crossing (MG)

Overview

Littlehaven (Rusper Road) Manual Gates level crossing is located immediately off the Faygate end of Littlehaven station.

In addition, is controlled locally by a Crossing Keeper located within the old Littlehaven signal box, which is situated at

the Faygate end of the Down Horsham line station platform, platform No.2.

The Littlehaven Crossing Keeper operates a small mechanical lever frame, which control ‘gate releases’ and two protecting stop signals, T891 and T894 signals. A mechanical level crossing ‘gate wheel’ is provided for controlling the position of the gates. Road traffic signals (wigwags) were added during 2005, push button and rotary switch controls are provided to operate the road traffic signals.

The Littlehaven Crossing Keeper is also provided with a Train Describer system (TD) for monitoring train movements, and an

illuminated track circuit diagram to enable the Littlehaven Crossing keeper to observe approaching train movements. A direct line telephone is also provided which connects the Littlehaven Crossing Keeper with the Panel 7 Signaller at Three Bridges ASC.

Manual Gates

Four timber manual gates are provided at Littlehaven (Rusper Road) level crossing, locally referred to as simply "Littlehaven

level crossing". Each of these four gates are connected to the ‘gate wheel’ (mentioned above) via galvanised steel rodding and crown wheel mechanisms. When the wheel is turned, each of the four timber gates will move in sequence from a fully closed across the railway, to a fully closed across the roadway position, and vice versa. Once closed against the roadway, these gates prevent vehicles and pedestrians from crossing the railway.

The normal position of these gates is across the railway lines.

Road Traffic Signals

Road traffic signals were installed during 2005; these signals are positioned on each side of the roadway, and to each approach road (each side of the railway lines)Before the Littlehaven Crossing Keeper positions the manual gates across the roadway, the road traffic signals must be initiated first. Once initiated, these road traffic signals will first display a steady amber light for approximately 4 seconds. After approximately 4 seconds, the steady amber light will be replaced by two red lights positioned horizontally above the amber light; these red lights will flash alternately (wigwag) once illuminated.

The correct functioning of these red lights is lamp indicated within Littlehaven Crossing Keeper’s cabin. The road traffic signals will remain illuminated until the manual gates are once again correctly positioned against the railway lines.

The Littlehaven Crossing Keeper is also provided with controls for extinguishing these road traffic signals during instances

when they cannot be automatically extinguished.

‘Hustle’ alarms are also provided which will sound once the road traffic signals are initiated, and will continue to sound

until all four manual gates are fully positioned against the roadway.

At the time of writing this document, the ‘hustle’ alarms remain inhibited due to local resident’s complaints.

Protecting stop signals

The two protecting stop signals, T891 and T894 signals, which are located at the approach to Littlehaven (Rusper Road) level

crossing along the Down and Up Horsham lines are provided with Replacement buttons on Panel 7. Lifting these buttons will cause the associated button lamp, and red signal lamp to both become illuminated. T891 signal along the Down Horsham line is controlled by lever No.5, whilst T894 signal along the Up Horsham line is controlled by lever No.6 by the Littlehaven Crossing Keeper.

Once the Littlehaven Crossing Keeper ‘clears’ either T891 and/or T894 signals, a white ‘slot off’ lamp indication will become

illuminated on the signalling panel informing the Signaller on Panel 7 that the associated signal has been cleared.

12. Parsonage Road AHB Level Crossing

Parsonage Road Automatic Half Barrier level crossing (AHBLC) is located just over a ¼ of a mile from Littlehaven station, and

just over a ¼ of a mile from Horsham station along the down and up Horsham lines.

Parsonage Road Automatic Half Barrier level crossing (AHBLC) is provided with half lifting barriers, road traffic signals,

hustle alarms, and direct line telephones connected to the Signaller on Panel 7 at Three Bridges ASC.

The direct line telephones (mentioned above) are additionally connected to, and monitored via a ‘Public Emergency Telephone

System’ (PETS)

Public Emergency Telephone System (PETS)

Each of the Emergency Telephones described above, are electronically monitored by the ‘Public Emergency Telephone System’

(PETS)

Supervision

Although Panel 7 supervises Parsonage Road AHB level crossing. The operation of the level crossing is controlled automatically by passing trains.

Protecting stop signals

The two protecting stop signals, T893 and T896 signals, which are located at the approach to Parsonage Road AHB level crossing along the Down and Up Horsham lines are controlled via standard ‘entrance/exit’ route-setting buttons on Panel 7.

Passing T893 and T896 signals at Danger

Except when Parsonage Road AHBLC is in ‘local control’, if it is necessary for T893 and/or T896 signals to be passed at Danger. When authorising the Driver to proceed in accordance with the Rules and Regulations you must, in addition, instruct the Driver to ‘draw forward’, stop short of the level crossing, and not proceed over it unless it is safe to do so.

13. Horsham

Horsham station is located just over 1¾ miles from Warnham station, almost 2½ miles from Christ’s Hospital station, and

approximately 1¾ miles from Bakers occupation crossing along the down and up Main lines.

In addition to this, just over one mile from Littlehaven station, and just over a ¼ of a mile from Parsonage Road Automatic

Half Barrier level crossing (AHBLC) along the down and up Horsham lines.

Overview of Horsham station configuration

At Horsham station, down and up Platform Loop lines are additionally provided.

Horsham station is made up from a two-island platforms arrangement.

The Up Platform Loop line platform No.1, together with the Up Main line platform No.2 form the lower island platform arrangement, as seen from the signalling panel. Whilst the Down Main line platform No.3, and the Down Platform Loop line platform No.4 form the upper island arrangement as seen from the signalling panel.

The Down Platform Loop line platform No.4 is provided with additional signals in both directions approximately half way along

the platform.

This means that platform No.4 is provided with two signal sections.

Horsham Junction

Horsham Junction is situated beyond the London end of Horsham station. In the up direction, a facing junction is provided; the lines leading to the left after Horsham Junction are the down and up Main lines leading to Warnham station.

Whilst the lines leading to the right after Horsham Junction are the down and up Horsham lines leading to Littlehaven station.

Comprehensive connections (points) are provided beyond the London end of Horsham station, and Horsham Junction, T2001, T2002,

T2007, T2008, T2009, T2010, T2011, T2012, T2013, T2014, and T2016 points.

These connections allow access between down and up Main and Horsham lines, T2009 and T2010 points.

Together with access to and from the Up Platform Loop line platform No.1 T2016 points, and the Down Platform Loop line platform No.4 T2014 points.

Down Sidings North

Connections are provided between the Down Sidings North T897 signal, also called the “Branch Sidings” and the Down Horsham

line T2007 points.

At this time, the Down Sidings North consist of No.3 and No.4 sidings only T2004 and T2005 points.

No.4 siding T1407 position light shunt signal and T2004 points (reverse)

No.3 siding T1409 position light shunt signal and T2004 points (normal)

The Down Sidings South (Branch Sidings) are each electrified.

The Down Sidings North, siding No.2 and No.1 still need to be re-laid and realigned, T2005 and T2006 points.

At this time, T2005 and T2006 points remain ‘clipped & padlocked’ reverse until No.2 and No.1 sidings are commissioned.

T897 stop signal controls movements from the Down Sidings North into both platforms No.3 and platform No.4 at Horsham station

in conjunction with T1407 and T1409 position light shunt signals (mentioned earlier)

Track Circuit Interrupter Device

A Track Circuit Interrupter device is located beyond T2007A points.

This device once activated will occupy ‘MCJ’ track circuit, even if all vehicle wheels are no longer on contact with the

running rails.

For this reason, no movement must be authorised to pass T897 signal whilst T2007 points are positioned ‘normal’.

T838 signal, located at the London end of platform No.4 at Horsham station controls movements into No.4 and No.3 Down Sidings

North.

T840 signal, located at the London end of platform No.3 at Horsham station controls movements into No.4 and No.3 Down Sidings

North.

Engine Road

The Engine Road Siding T1415 position light shunt signal and T2012 points, is located adjacent to the Down Platform Loop line

connections into platform No.4 at Horsham station over Horsham Junction.

A second set of points, T2013 points, form the opposite end of the connection to and from the Engine Road Siding.

T2013 points also perform an additional task of providing a ‘trap points’ feature in instances whenever an unauthorised train

movement were to depart from the London end of platform No.4 at Horsham station.

Track Circuit Interrupter Device

A Track Circuit Interrupter device is located beyond T2012 points.

This device once activated will occupy ‘MGA’ track circuit, even if all vehicle wheels are no longer on contact with the

running rails.

For this reason, no movement must be authorised to pass T1415 position light shunt signal whilst T2012 points are positioned

‘normal’.

T1415 position light shunt signal controls movements into platform No.4 at Horsham station.

T838 signal controls movements from platform No.4 at Horsham station into the Engine Road Siding.

Up Sidings North (Horsham Yard)

The first of three separate access and departure points, T1419 position light shunt signal and T2015 points are located beyond the London end of platform No.1.

T1419 position light shunt signal controls movements from the Up Sidings North via T2015 points into platform No.1 at Horsham

station.

Track Circuit Interrupter Device

A Track Circuit Interrupter device is located beyond T2015 points.

This device once activated will occupy ‘MHD’ track circuit, even if all vehicle wheels are no longer on contact with the

running rails.

For this reason, no movement must be authorised to pass T1419 position light shunt signal whilst T2015 points are positioned

‘normal’.

T844 signal, located at the London end of platform No.1 at Horsham station controls movements into the Up Sidings North via

T2015 points.

In addition to this, ‘Shunters Release No.4’ is required before this route can be set.

The second of three separate access and departure points, T1405 position light shunt signal and T2003 points are provided a

couple of hundred yards further along the Up Sidings North, which run adjacent to the Up Main line towards Warnham station.

T1405 position light shunt signal, positioned at the Warnham station side of T2003 points controls movements along the Up

Horsham Sidings (towards Horsham station)

In addition to this, ‘Shunters Release No.3’ is required before this route can be set.

T1405 position light shunt signal controls movements from the Up Sidings North via T2005 points into platform No.1, No.2,

No.3, and No.4 at Horsham station.

T844 signal, located at the London end of platform No.1 at Horsham station controls movements into the Up Sidings North via

T2003 points.

In addition to this, ‘Shunters Release No.2’ is required before this route can be set.

T842 signal, located at the London end of platform No.2 at Horsham station controls movements into the Up Sidings North via

T2003 points.

In addition to this, ‘Shunters Release No.2’ is required before this route can be set.

T840 signal, located at the London end of platform No.3 at Horsham station controls movements into the Up Sidings North via

T2003 points.

In addition to this, ‘Shunters Release No.2’ is required before this route can be set.

T838 signal, located at the London end of platform No.4 at Horsham station controls movements into the Up Sidings North via

T2003 points.

In addition to this, ‘Shunters Release No.2’ is required before this route can be set.

T1404 position light shunt signal is also provided, and located beyond the Horsham side of T2003 points along the Up Sidings

North, which also controls movements further along the Up Sidings North.

In addition to this, ‘Shunters Release No.2’ is required before this route can be set.

The third of three separate access and departure points, T836 signal and T2002 points are provided a further 200 yards or so

along the Up Sidings North, which run adjacent to the Up Main line towards Warnham station.

T836 colour light stop signal controls movements into a shunt neck located beyond T2002 points, in this instance, the

associated sub aspect signal, provided in conjunction with T838 signal will be utilised.

In addition to this, ‘Shunters Release No.1’ is required before this route can be set.

T836 colour light stop signal also controls movements onto the Up Main line towards Warnham station.

T1401 position light shunt signal, located along the Up Main line beyond the Warnham station end of T2001 points, controls

movements into the Up Sidings North via T2002 points.

In addition to this, ‘Shunters Release No.1’ is required before this route can be set.

T837 colour light stop signal, located along the Down Main line at the Warnham station side of T2001 points controls movements into the Up Sidings North via T2002 points.

In addition to this, ‘Shunters Release No.1’ is required before this route can be set.

T1403 position light shunt signal, located beyond the Warnham side of T2002 points along the shunt neck controls movements

along the Up Sidings North (towards Horsham station)

In addition to this, ‘Shunters Release No.1’ is required before this route can be set.

Access to and from Horsham station (London end)

Comprehensive connections (points) are provided beyond the London end of Horsham station, and Horsham Junction, T2001, T2002,

T2003, T2007, T2008, T2009, T2010, T2011, T2012, T2013, T2014, T2015, and T2016 points.

These connections allow access between down and up Main and Horsham lines, T2009 and T2010 points.

Together with access to and from the Up Platform Loop line platform No.1 T2016 points, and the Down Platform Loop line

platform No.4 T2014 points.

Platform Loop line platform No.4, the Down Main line platform No.3, the Up Main line platform No.2, or the Up Platform Loop

line platform No.1.

From the Up Sidings North via T2015 points and T1419 position light shunt signal, it is possible to gain access into the Up

Loop line platform No.1.

Departing from the Down Platform Loop line platform No.4 T838 signal, it is possible to gain access to the Up Sidings North

via T2003 points, the Up Main line towards Warnham station, the Up Horsham line towards Littlehaven station, the Down Siding

North (Branch Siding) siding No.3, the Down Siding North (Branch Siding) siding No.4, or the Engine Road Siding.

Horsham station Carriage Sidings

Located adjacent to the Down Platform Loop line platform No.4 at Horsham station are three Carriage Sidings.

Each of these Carriage Sidings are electrified.

Carriage Siding No.1 T1421 position light shunt signal is located closest to the Down Platform Loop line and can accommodate

an 8-car train.

Carriage Siding No.2 T1423 position light shunt signal is located next to Carriage Siding No.1, and is in addition, provided

with a hand-point connection located approximately halfway along the siding, which connects to Carriage Siding No.3.

Carriage Siding No.2 can accommodate an 8-car train, however, whilst an 8-car train is positioned here, access to and from

Carriage Siding No.3 via the Hand-points is blocked.

Carriage Siding No.3 is located next to Carriage Siding No.2 and is accessed via a hand-point connection to and from Carriage

Siding No.2 (as mentioned above)

Carriage Siding No.3 can accommodate a 4-car train, however, once Carriage Siding No.2 is occupied by more than a 4-car train, access to and from Carriage Siding No.3 is no longer possible.

The three Carriage Sidings at Horsham station can only be accessed via the Down Siding South, also locally known as “the

Malthouse Siding”.

A ‘Shunters Release’ is required before a route can bet set from either T1421 or T1423 position light shunt signals towards

the Down Siding South (‘Malthouse’)

Down Siding South (Malthouse)

The Down Siding South T1406 position light shunt signal, locally known as the ‘Malthouse Siding’ is located beyond the

Christ’s Hospital end of the Down Loop line platform No.4, and can accommodate 16 coaches.

The Down Siding South (Malthouse) is electrified.

Access into the Down Siding South (Malthouse) can be made from either Carriage Siding No.2 via T2023 points ‘reverse’ and

T1423 position light shunt signal, Carriage Siding No.1 via T2023 points ‘normal’ and T1421 position light shunt signal, or

from the Down Platform Loop line platform No.4 T847 signal.

A ‘Shunters Release’ is required before a route can bet set from either T1421, T1423 position light shunt signals, or T847

signal towards the Down Siding South (‘Malthouse’)

From the Down Siding South (Malthouse) T1406 position light shunt signal, it is possible to gain access to the Down Platform

Loop line platform No.4, Carriage Siding No.1, or Carriage Siding No.2.

Up Siding South

The Up Siding South T1412 position light shunt signal, is located beyond the Christ’s Hospital end of the Up Platform Loop

line platform No.1, and can accommodate an 8-car train.

The Up Siding South is electrified.

Access into the Up Siding South can be made from either the Down Platform Loop line platform No.4 T847 signal, the Down Main

line platform No.3 T845 signal, The Up Main line platform No.2 T849 signal, or from the Up Platform Loop line platform No.1

T851 signal.

A ‘Shunters Release’ is required before a route can bet set from either T847, T845, T849, or T851 signals.

From the Up Siding South T1412 position light shunt signal, it is possible to gain access into the Up Platform Loop line

platform No.1, the Up Main line platform No.2, the Down Main line platform No.3, or the Down Platform Loop line platform No.4.

T2026 points are additionally provided and located just beyond T2027 points, and act as a ‘trap point’ feature in instances

whenever an unauthorised train movement were to depart from the Up Siding South.

Track Circuit Interrupter Device

A Track Circuit Interrupter device is located beyond T2026 points.

This device once activated will occupy ‘MHA’ track circuit, even if all vehicle wheels are no longer on contact with the

running rails.

For this reason, no movement must be authorised to pass T1412 position light shunt signal whilst T2026 and T2027 points are

positioned ‘normal’.

Access to and from Horsham station (Christ’s Hospital end)

Comprehensive connections (points) are provided beyond the Christ’s Hospital end of Horsham station, T2021, T2022, and T2025.

These connections allow access between down and up Platform Loop lines to and from down and up Main lines leaving and

departing Horsham station.

Whilst T2024 points allow access to and from the Down Siding South (Malthouse), T2026 and T2027 points allow access to and

from the Up Siding South.

T1408 position light shunt signal, located along the Down Main line, allows shunt movements to be made into either the Down

Main line platform No.3, or the Down Platform Loop line platform No.4.

T1425 position light shunt signal, located along the Up Main line adjacent to T853 signal acts as a ‘limit of shunt’ indicator (LOS) and allows ‘wrong-line’ movements from each of the station platforms at Horsham, to shunt utilising T1410 position light shunt signal.

T1410 position light shunt signal

T1410 position light shunt signal located along the Up Main line adjacent to both T1412 and T1408 position light shunt signals has two distinct functions:

T1410 position light shunt signal, whilst being used as a shunt signal, is provided with a ‘dot matrix’ route indicator.

Once T1410 position light shunt signal displays a ‘proceed’ aspect under these circumstances, the associated ‘dot matrix’

route indicator will display the appropriate platform number (1-4)

Once a route is set from T848 signal, towards any of the four station platforms at Horsham station, T1410 position light shunt signal will also display a ‘proceed’ aspect, under these circumstances T1410 position light shunt signal acts as a

‘preceding-shunt’ signal.

Once T1410 position light shunt signal is displaying a ‘proceed’ aspect, T848 signal will now also display the appropriate

‘proceed’ aspect.

T848 signal is provided with a ‘dot matrix’ route indicator, which once illuminated displays the appropriate station platform

number (1-4)

Under these circumstances, the ‘dot matrix’ route indicator provided in conjunction with T1410 position light shunt signal,

WILL NOT display any indication.

This is because T848 signal will always display the appropriate station platform number, once ‘cleared’.

From T1410 position light shunt signal, it is possible to gain access into either the Up Platform Loop line platform No.1, the Up Main line platform No.2, the Down Main line platform No.3, or the Down Platform Loop line platform No.4.

From the Up Siding South T1412 position light shunt signal, it is possible to gain access into either the Up Platform Loop

line platform No.1, the Up Main line platform No.2, the Down Main line platform No.3, or the Down Platform Loop line platform

No.4.

South.

Bi-directional lines

The Down Platform Loop line platform No.4, together with the Down Main line platform No.3, are each bi-directional lines.

Permissive Working arrangements

The signalling in the Horsham station area allow for comprehensive ‘permissive working’ arrangements.

Each of the signals listed below are provided with two route setting entrance buttons, and are located one behind the other

geographically on the signalling panel along the line concerned.

Front Button (main signal aspect selection)

The front button (located in the direction of travel) once depressed, then used in conjunction with an appropriate ‘exit’

button will set an appropriate signal route.

This can be done at any time, whether the controlling platform track circuit is occupied or unoccupied.

Selecting this button sequence will allow the main aspect for the signal concerned to display a ‘proceed’ aspect once all

other signalling controls placed upon the signal route concerned have been met.

Rear button (Subsidiary signal aspect selection)

The rear button (located in the direction of travel) once depressed in conjunction with an appropriate ‘exit’ button will set

an appropriate signal route only if the appropriate platform track circuit is showing occupied.

Selecting this button in sequence will allow the ‘subsidiary’ aspect, provided in conjunction with the signal concerned to

display a ‘proceed’ aspect once all other signalling controls placed upon the signal route concerned have been met.

Each of these buttons are identified with the letter ‘C’ located nearby, the exception to this are the buttons associated with T843 and T846 signals, these buttons are identified with the letters ‘C/W’.

‘C/W’ denotes that the rear button concerned is provided with two functions.

Whilst being used as an ‘entrance’ button, will set the appropriate ‘subsidiary’ route.

Whilst being used as an ‘exit’ button in conjunction with an appropriate ‘entrance’ button’, will set an appropriate ‘reduced

overlap’ route (ROL)

In all circumstances, a second train must not be allowed into an occupied platform if you have already ‘cleared’ the signal

for the first train to depart.

When you signal a second train into an occupied platform, you must wait until the second train has arrived in the platform

before allowing the first train to depart.

Signals capable of displaying ‘flashing’ aspects, once cleared (T833 and T835 signals)

T2001 points located between the down and up Main lines between Warnham and Horsham stations allow for trains to cross from

the Down Main line at T837 signal onto the Up Main line, and then approach T841 signal protecting Horsham station.

From along the Up Main line T841 signal, it is then possible to gain access to each of the four station platforms at Horsham.

T837 signal is provided with two repeater signals, T833 and T835 signals.

Both T833 and T835 signals are configured as a four-aspect colour light signals with the bottom (red) aspect ‘blanked’ out of

use.

other, whilst T833 signal will display a green aspect.

Whilst T837 signal is displaying a yellow aspect in conjunction with the associated route indicator displaying position No.4,

T835 signal will display a yellow aspect ‘flashing’, T833 signal will display two yellow ‘flashing’ aspects displayed one

This is subject to T841 signal displaying a ‘proceed’ aspect, and ‘MAM’, ‘MAN’, ‘MAP’, ‘MAR’ track circuits ‘unoccupied’.

There are two conditions relating to T837 signal displaying a ‘proceed’ aspect in conjunction with the associated junction

indicator displaying position No.4.

‘MAR’ track circuit showing occupied, under these circumstances, T837 signal will display the appropriate ‘proceed’ aspect,

either yellow, two yellow aspects displayed vertically one above the other, or green, depending upon the aspect displayed at

T841 signal (See the red X on image D)

‘MAM’, ‘MAN’, ‘MAP’, ‘MAR’ track circuits all showing unoccupied, and T841 signal displaying a ‘proceed’ aspect for a movement into any of the four station platforms at Horsham.

(See image C, a train must be no closer than the red X)

Under these circumstances, the maximum ‘proceed’ aspect capable of being displayed is yellow on T837 signal.

Once ‘MAR’ track circuit subsequently becomes occupied by an approaching train (see image D), T837 signal will then ‘step-up’

and display the appropriate ‘proceed’ aspect, either two yellow aspects displayed vertically one above the other, or green.

T837 signal Approach Control arrangement

If a route is set from T837 signal to T841 signal (irrespective of the aspect displayed at T841 signal) whilst either ‘MAM’,

‘MAN’, or ‘MAP’ track circuits showing occupied.

T837 signal will remain at danger until ‘MAR’ track circuit becomes occupied.

At this time T837 signal will now display the appropriate ‘proceed’ aspect, either Caution (yellow aspect), Preliminary

Caution (two yellow aspects displayed vertically one above the other), or Clear (green aspect)

14. Bakers Occupation Crossing

Bakers occupation crossing is located approximately 1¾ miles from Horsham station, and almost ¾ of a mile from Christ’s

Hospital station along the down and up Main lines. Bakers occupation crossing is provided with gates either side of the railway. Direct-line telephones are provided on each side of the railway lines, connected to the Signaller on Panel 7 at Three Bridges ASC.

15. Christ’s Hospital

Christ’s Hospital station is located almost 2½ miles from Horsham station, 2¼miles from Barnes Green Automatic Half Barrier

(AHB) level crossing, and over 4¾ miles from Billingshurst station along the down and up Main lines. Christ’s Hospital station is provided with two platforms, the Down Main line is platform No.2, whilst the Up Main line is platform No.1.

16. Sharpenhurst No.3 Occupation Crossing

Sharpenhurst No.3 occupation crossing is located almost 1½ miles from Christ’s Hospital station, and ½ a mile from Barnes

Green Automatic Half Barrier (AHB) level crossing along the down and up Main lines. Sharpenhurst No.3 occupation crossing is provided with gates either side of the railway. Direct-line telephones are provided on each side of the railway lines, connected to the Signaller at Billinghurst signal box.

17. Barnes Green AHB Level Crossing

Barnes Green Automatic Half Barrier level crossing (AHBLC) is located just over 2¼miles from Christ’s Hospital station, over a ¼ of a mile (594 yards) from Vale Wood occupation crossing, and just over 2¾ miles from Billinghurst station along the down

and up Main lines. Barnes Green Automatic Half Barrier level crossing (AHBLC) is provided with half lifting barriers, road traffic signals, hustle alarms, and direct line telephones connected to the Signaller at Billinghurst signal box. Barnes Green AHB level crossing is also provided with Emergency Telephones, one being provided on each side of the railway,

and connected to the Signaller at Billingshurst signal box.

Protecting stop signals

T857 signal

The protecting stop signal along the Down Main line, T857 signal, located at the Billingshurst end of Christ’s Hospital

station is supervised by the Panel 7 Signaller at Three Bridges ASC.

T857 signal is provided with a Replacement button, located geographically on the signalling panel. Lifting this button will cause the associated button lamp, and red signal lamp to both become illuminated. In addition to this, the Signaller at Billingshurst signal box is also provided with a Replacement switch, located within Billingshurst signal box. Once the Signaller at Billingshurst signal box operates this Replacement switch, a white lamp marked '857 Replaced To Danger

by Billingshurst' will become illuminated on the signalling panel, informing the Signaller on Panel 7 that T857 signal has

been either replaced to danger, or is being maintained at danger by the Signaller at Billingshurst signal box.

Passing T857 signal at Danger

Except when Barnes Green AHBLC is in ‘local control’, if it is necessary for T857 signal to be passed at Danger.

When authorising the Driver to proceed in accordance with the Rules and Regulations you must, in addition, instruct the Driver to ‘draw forward’, stop short of the level crossing, and not proceed over it unless it is safe to do so.

BT11 signal

The protecting stop signal along the Up Main line, BT11 signal, is controlled directly by the Signaller at Billingshurst

signal box. In addition to this, the Signaller on Panel 7 is also provided with a Replacement button for BT11 signal.

Lifting this button will cause the associated button lamp, and red signal lamp to both become illuminated.

This will cause BT11 signal to revert to danger if ‘cleared’, or to be maintained at danger if not cleared.

18. Vale Wood Occupation Crossing

Vale Wood occupation crossing is located almost 2½ miles from Christ’s Hospital station, over a ¼ of a mile (594 yards) from

Barnes Green Automatic Half Barrier (AHB) level crossing, and almost ½ a mile from Lower Pratts occupation crossing along the

down and up Main lines. Vale Wood occupation crossing is provided with gates either side of the railway. Direct-line telephones are provided on each side of the railway lines, connected to the Signaller at Billinghurst signal box.

19. Lower Pratts Occupation Crossing

Lower Pratts occupation crossing is located almost 2¾ miles from Christ’s Hospital station, over a ½ of a mile from Barnes

Green Automatic Half Barrier (AHB) level crossing, and almost 1¾ miles from Rosier No.2 occupation crossing along the down and up Main lines. Lower Pratts occupation crossing is provided with gates either side of the railway. Direct-line telephones are provided on each side of the railway lines, connected to the Signaller at Billinghurst signal box.

20. Rosier No.2 Occupation Crossing

Rosier No.2 occupation crossing is located over 4½ miles from Christ’s Hospital station, over 1¾ of a mile from Pratts

occupation crossing, and almost ½ a mile from Billingshurst station along the down and up Main lines. Rosier No.2 occupation crossing is provided with gates either side of the railway. Direct-line telephones are provided on each side of the railway lines, connected to the Signaller at Billinghurst signal box.

21. Billingshurst

Billingshurst station is located 4¾ miles from Christ’s Hospital station. Two station platforms are provided, the Up Main line is No.1 platform, whilst the Down Main line is No.2 platform. Billingshurst signal box is situated just off the Pulborough end of the Up Main line platform. The Signaller at Billingshurst operates a full size lever frame controlling both semaphore and colour-light signals. A trailing mechanical crossover is provided approximately 200 yards beyond the Pulborough end of Billingshurst station.

Billingshurst signal box ‘BT’

The next signal box that works with Three Bridges Panel 7 along the Down and Up Main lines between Christ’s Hospital and

Billingshurst stations is Billingshurst signal box, prefix ‘BT’. Emergency Alarms are provided between Three Bridges Panel 7 and Billingshurst signal box.

22. Mickleham Tunnel

Mickleham Tunnel is located London side of Boxhill & Westham and is 524 yards long. Both lines have protecting signals controlled by Wimbledon ASC.

23. Boxhill & Westhumble

Boxhill & Westhumble station is just under 1 mile from Dorking and is served by both South West Trains and Southern services. It is a simple station comprising of just the two platforms. Up trains are under the control of Wimbledon ASC whilst Down trains come under Dorking Box.

24. Dorking

Dorking station is located just under 5 miles from Holmwood station, and almost ½ a mile from the Dorking end portal of

Betchworth Tunnel.

Dorking station has three platforms; platform No.1 is located along the Up Main line, whilst platform No.2 and platform No.3

share an island platform arrangement.

Platform No.2 is the Down Main line, whilst platform No.3 is the Down Platform Loop line.

Both the Down Main line platform No.2 and the Down Platform Loop line platform N.3 are bi-directional lines.

Dorking also boasts an electrified carriage siding, accessible from the Country end of the station.

Dorking signal box is situated a few yards beyond the London end of the Down Platform Loop line station platform.

The Signaller at Dorking operates a full size lever frame controlling an electromechanical signalling interlocking controlling power operated points and colour-light signals.

Dorking signal box ‘CBK’

The next signal box that works with Three Bridges Panel 7 along the Down and Up Main lines between Dorking and Holmwood

stations is Dorking signal box, prefix ‘CBK’. Dorking signal boxes fringes with Wimbledon ASC at Mickleham Tunnel.

Emergency Alarms are provided between Three Bridges Panel 7 and Dorking signal box.

Permissive Working is provided for Platform 1 in the Up direction and for platforms 2 & 3 from either direction.

Trains can be shunted at both ends of the station but can only access the siding from the country end.

25. Betchworth Tunnel

Betchworth Tunnel is located along the down and up Main lines between Dorking and Holmwood stations, and is 384 yards long.

The Dorking end of Betchworth Tunnel is situated almost ½ a mile from Dorking station, whilst the Holmwood end of Betchworth

Tunnel is situated 3¾ miles from Holmwood station.

Protecting stop signals

CBK7 signal

The protecting stop signal along the Down Main line, CBK7 signal, located between Dorking station and Betchworth Tunnel is

supervised by the Dorking Signaller.

CBK 7 signal can be replaced and/or maintained at Danger by the Dorking Signaller via the use of a Replacement switch located

within Dorking signal box.

CBK7 signal is additionally provided with a Replacement button, located geographically on Panel 7. Lifting this button will

cause the associated button lamp, and red signal lamp to both become illuminated.

T826 signal

The protecting stop signal along the Up Main line, T826 signal, is located at the Dorking end of Holmwood station and is

supervised by the Panel 7 Signaller.

T826 signal can be replaced and/or maintained at Danger by the Panel 7 Signaller via the use of a Replacement button located

geographically on the signalling panel.

Lifting this button will cause the associated button lamp, and red signal lamp to both become illuminated.

26. Holmwood

Holmwood station is located just less than 5 miles from Dorking station, and just less than 2¼ miles from Ockley station along the down and up Main lines.

Holmwood station is provided with two platforms, the Down Main line is platform No.2, whilst the Up Main line is platform

No.1.

27. Ockley

Ockley station is at 29 miles, 20 chains (Approx 2 miles from Holmwood & 4 miles from Warnham. Ockley comprises an Up & Down platform with an emergency crossover located at the London (Dorking) end of the station. This crossover is not signalled, requiring the use of ground staff with a bar to manually move the points and is therefore only used during engineering work.

28. Warnham

Warnham station is 4 miles from Ockley and only 2 miles from Dorking. Warnham has platforms on both the Up Main and Down Main. Warnham Automatic Half Barrier level crossing (AHBLC) is located at the country end of the station. The crossing is provided with half lifting barriers, road traffic signals,

hustle alarms, and direct line telephones connected to the Signaller on Panel 7 at Three Bridges ASC.

The direct line telephones (mentioned above) are additionally connected to, and monitored via a ‘Public Emergency Telephone

System’ (PETS)

Each of the Emergency Telephones described above, are electronically monitored by the ‘Public Emergency Telephone System’

(PETS)

Supervision

The operation of the level crossing is controlled automatically by passing trains but supervised by Panel 7.

Protecting stop signals

The two protecting stop signals, T893 and T896 signals, which are located at the approach to Parsonage Road AHB level crossing along the Down and Up Horsham lines are controlled via standard ‘entrance/exit’ route-setting buttons on Panel 7.

Passing T831 and T832 signals at Danger

Except when Warnham AHBLC is in ‘local control’, if it is necessary for T831 and/or T832 signals to be passed at Danger. When authorising the Driver to proceed in accordance with the Rules and Regulations you must, in addition, instruct the Driver to ‘draw forward’, stop short of the level crossing, and not proceed over it unless it is safe to do so.
