ARS (Automatic Route Setting) messages

ARS (Automatic Route Setting) messages

The following is a list of ARS messages you may encounter when attempting certain actions, such as setting a conflicting route . Thanks to Clive Feather for the original list.

Message Meaning
already on stretch A train is already on the section of track that the other train needs
Approaching red automatic signal The red signal the train is approaching is an automatic signal, so ARS can't do anything.
cannot be made ARS You have attempted to make the train ARS, however the train is off it's planned path, so ARS doesn't know what to do with it.
duplicated in area The Train Description that has just been interposed is identical to another description already in the area
Enough route set The train does not require a route to be set (as a rule, the train has at least 2 green signals ahead of it)
entering area non-ARS The train is entering the area in non-ARS mode, so you will need to route it manually.
entering area off planned path The train has entered your control area on the wrong line (e.g. it's been put on the Fast instead of the Slow)
Giving priority in overlap to A route set for the train will foul the overlap for another train.
Giving priority to ARS has judged the second train to be more important, so is holding this train back.
is ARS ARS is setting routes for this train.
is non-ARS ARS is not setting routes for this train
Join planned at No route has been set for this train because a join is planned here.
Location delay at This train stops at this location, so no onward route will be set until departure time.
made ARS ARS is now setting routes for this train
made non-ARS This will occur when either a route is cancelled for a train, or the train is routed off it's planned path.
Non-ARS ARS is not setting routes for this train
not in timetable The TD that has just been interposed does not match any timetable in the timetable list
Off planned path This train is off its planned path, so ARS cannot set routes for it.
requires manual route to be set The route this train requires cannot be set by ARS.
Reverses at No further routes have been set for this train because it reverses here.
Route set off planned path You have set a route off the planned path for this train, so ARS will not set routes for it.
Route set to end of path This train has a route set either to a fringe signalbox or the station at which it terminates.
routed off planned path You have set a route off the planned path for this train, so ARS will not set routes for it.
routed off planned path and made non-ARS You have set a route off the planned path for this train, so ARS will not set routes for it.
running to This train is now running to a special timing pattern.
running to entering area off planned path This train is running to a special timing pattern, but is currently off its planned path, so ARS is not setting routes for it.
Train in front Another train is directly in front of this one, so no routes will be set for it.
Unknown The Train Describer for this train is not recognized.
Waiting for booked ARS will not set routes until the departure time is reached.
Waiting for joining train This train is currently waiting for another train to join, so ARS will not set any routes until the join is complete or abandoned.
Waiting for manual route to be set The route this train requires cannot be set by ARS.
Waiting for route in manual sub-area The ARS sub-area that this train is in has been disabled. The train must be routed manually
Waiting for route to become available There is another train on the required route, so ARS will not set a route until it is clear.
Waiting for route to prove ARS is waiting for the current route to prove .
Waiting for TRTS ARS will not set a route until the train has given TRTS
ARS subarea(s) cancelled due to route cancel A route has been cancelled somewhere in the sub-area, and so ARS has been disabled to prevent it attempting to re-set the route. The sub-area(s) will flash to indicate that they have been disabled in this way.
Description is duplicated The description that has just been interposed is somewhere else in the controlled area as well.
Description not found The description just interposed does not match any description in the timetable.
