A run-round loop is a track configuration that allows a loco-hauled train to pull into a siding, detach the loco from the front, pull the loco forward over trailing points, reverse back past the train on an adjacent track, pull over trailing points at the other end, and reverse back onto the rear end of the train.
The track configuration can, of course, be part of a much more complex layout but the principle remains the same.
