Sprung Point

Sprung Point

Sets of points may be indicated with a $ symbol, this means the points are sprung so that they will remain at the 'normal' position unless the weight of a train coming over them in the trailing (converging) direction forces them into the 'reverse' position. The points will spring back to the normal position once the wheel is clear of them.

It is therefore forbidden to reverse a train over a set of sprung points which has not fully traversed them, as sets of wheels of the train could be diverted to a different line.

Signallers have no control over the position of a set of sprung points, and usually have no indication of which position in which they are lying.

In some SimSig simulations, sprung points are be controllable and their positions indicated to the user. They will auto-normalise after a train has passed over them.
