Emergency Replacement For Automatic Signals

Emergency Replacement For Automatic Signals

Some automatic signals can be replaced to red in an emergency. Such signals have a red 'E' symbol adjacent to the signal head.

To replace a signal to red, right-click on the red 'E' button. The hollow red circle will be replaced by a filled red circle and the signal aspect will change to red.

Using the right-hand mouse button for this operation may seem odd, but think of it as cancelling automatic working and it all makes sense!

To allow the signal to work automatically again, left click on the red 'E' button. The filled red circle will be replaced by a hollow red circle and the signal aspect will revert to normal operation.

Some controls are marked with an 'R' instead of an 'E'. The 'R' means the interlocking confirms that the signal has changed to red, therefore the control can be used to protect authorised line blockages, such as vehicles using level crossings. Emergency buttons don't have feedback to confirm that the signal is showing red, and therefore can't be used to protect such blockages.

Remember the usual considerations before cancelling a route in front of a train
