Included in the table are the default stopping point which timetable writers can overwrite for specific trains:

  • F=Far end;
  • N=Near end;
  • NR= Near end for reversing trains only, otherwise Far end.

Where the box is blank the default is F, but these are locations where you are unlikely to want to know that information

At some locations e.g. ‘firstlocation’, I’ve said “trains for otherlocation can be sent there non-ARS”, that means that the possibility of sending the train to ‘otherlocation’ is not recognised by ARS but if you manually signal a train timetabled for ‘firstlocation’ to ‘otherlocation’ an arrival/departure will be ticked off as though it had gone as timetabled.

Station Operations

  • Platforms 101 and 119 represents the full length use of Platforms 10 + 11 and 1+19 and will generally only be used for extra long trains such as sleepers and special trains.
  • {Version 2} Signals E453, E454, E455, E456, E457, E458, E462 (signals protecting the mid-platform cross-overs) may need to be manually restored when a train stops straddling the cross-overs.
  • {Version 2} most signals in the Edinburgh area are

    Last Wheel Replacement.

  • Edinburgh (East) and Edinburgh (West) locations - these apply to the ‘through’ platforms 1, 10, 11 and 19 and associated loop lines. Platforms 20 and 21 will accept trains to these locations but can’t be set as booked platforms in the ‘plat’ field. These locations should only be used where the standard ‘Edinburgh’ can’t, which is generally when shunting between platforms. By default ARS will route trains via the loop line when accessing a ‘far-end’ platform and the East/West location can be added to force a through platform approach. E.g. A train from Abbeyhill to P11 will by default be sent via the SLE line - if an approach via P10 is required then the ‘East’ location needs to be added with the required ‘plat’ a passing time.
  • Signalling trains from Platform 17 from behind E483 should use the exit signals of E495, E497 or E499. Using E485 will cause the PL to be used.. Under ARS this should be handled correctly.
  • MR and PC platforms, here the points separating the two sidings at each location are controlled manually on the ground by the train crew in the real world. In the sim you must manually set the points before setting the route from the ‘exit’ signal for the respective siding.
  • Call-on and shunt routes normally require manual setting. Note trains reversing at Mound or Carlton should be called out using the White shunt triangles.
