History

Portsmouth Power Signalbox was commissioned in stages during April and May 1968 and originally fringed with Havant (KW) between Bedhampton and Farlington Junction and Cosham (NW) between Cosham Junction and Cosham. The first stage were the lines between Hilsea (exclusive) and Portsmouth Harbour (exclusive), this being commissioned on the 7th April 1968. The next area to be commissioned was Portsmouth Harbour station itself, which was brought into use on 21st April 1968. The last stage of the original scheme was Bedhampton/Cosham to Hilsea and this was resignalled on the 5th May 1968. However, this was not the end of the story as during June 1982 the signalbox at Cosham was decommissioned with the control of the signalling brought under the control of Portsmouth PSB. Closure of the PSB came about over Christmas 2006.
