Guidance Notes

Grimsby Panel

There is no ACI (Automatic Code Insertion) so all train descriptions have to be interposed manually.

There is TRTS at Cleethorpes and Grimsby Town.

All level crossings are equipped with auto-raise and this will work even when the startup option for auto-raise has not been selected except for Stallingborough CCTV crossing.

Only Stallingborough, Pyewipe and Roxton Sidings are capable of auto-lowering, if the startup option has been selected.

A phonecall is required to gain permission to send a train into Cleethorpes carriage sidings.

Some trains terminate and reverse at Grimsby Town. These trains are usually booked into P3.

Immingham Panel

The key to running this panel is knowing where all the various locations are. Make good use of the TIPLOC listing provided and the local map of the Immingham area.

Western Entrance level crossing is not capable of auto-lowering, and will always auto-raise unless the user disables the auto button on the crossing

When trains wish to enter from Humber Oil Refinery, they will request a slot from you and the relevant train ready to depart button will flash. When you are ready to deal with the train, press the button to give permission for the train to enter. Equally, when wishing to send a train into the refinery, you will need to request the relevant arrival slot by clicking on the button. No phone calls are required for this.

Calls need to be made to the following for permission to send a train to them:

  • reception sidings (one phone for both reception and storage sidings);
  • Lindsey oil panel;
  • coal export terminal;
  • coal pads 1+2;
  • ore pad;
  • Immingham TMD.

Scunthorpe Panels

As with Immingham, knowledge of the area is useful.

  • Scunthorpe TC is Trent Yard;
  • Scunthorpe FD is 'Freight Depot' ie the up goods yard (not Frodingham Depot);
  • Scunthorpe BSC Entrance 'C' is at the Anchor Sidings neck, signal S353;
  • Scunthorpe Redbourne is within BSC works, access via N Lincs Sidings.

Calls have to be made for trains going to:

  • Anchor Sidings, when requesting permission for a train to enter the sidings, the shunter will give you a line send the train in on, either 7-15, 4-6 or 1-3, you must route the train onto the correct line or face a penalty;
  • Trent Yard;
  • BSC CHP, the shunter will tell you which line, A or B to route the train onto. A penalty will be given for wrong routing the train;
  • Scunthorpe Redbourne.
  • Loaded coal trains from Immingham run-round at Scunthorpe Goods Yard (FD) to run into the CHP, and the empties do the same in reverse.

Some trains will have booked run rounds on the Trent reception line. The loco will pass Anchor Sidings Entrance C and leave the sim at Anchor Sidings (a phone call is required to send it in). It will later reappear and run round its train as normal.

Both Appleby and Elsham level crossings are capable of auto-lowering where the startup option is selected. Where auto-raise is not selected, neither crossing will auto-raise.

Trains using the bay line at Scunthorpe station for berthing purposes will lose their description and will not show up on a track circuit so it is advisable to use a sticky note to remind you it's there.

Keadby Canal bridge – see relevant manual section.

Gainsborough Panel

No phone calls are required on this panel.

When routing into West Burton power station, ensure you route to the correct line as dictated by the trains timetable.

Beckingham and Haxey barriers always have auto-raise enabled, and will never auto-lower. Stow Park and Northorpe will auto-lower, and will not auto-raise if the startup option is not selected.

There is a 'Train Approaching' annunciator at Stow Park LC; lower the barriers when it lights. In the other direction, lower the barriers when the train occupies the track circuit adjacent to stow parks distant signal.

Barnetby Panel

When the crossing keeper at New Barnetby wishes to open the crossing, they will contact you by phone and request you release the key for the crossing. When you are ready to do this, press the crossing release button. No trains can be routed over the crossing while the release has been given. The crossing keeper will phone you to tell you the crossing is clear and the release button will extinguish.

Signal BE35 is a yellow shunt signal and requires special routing. To send a train into the engineer's or Cattle Wharf sidings, the route must be set from BE33 or BE34 straight into the sidings, bypassing BE35. To route out towards BE39, the route must be set directly from BE35 to BE39 instead.

Brigg level crossing will auto-lower when this startup option is selected, and will not auto-raise unless this option has been selected.

Some freight trains are booked to stop at Wrawby Junction or Barnetby P1. This is for pathing purposes into the Immingham complex.

For a list of phonecalls to be made see this page .

Cleethorpes

Passenger permissive working (classes 0, 1, 2 and 5) is permitted at all platforms at Cleethorpes
