Timetabling

These notes are for those wishing to write their own timetables; they aren't required to operate the simulation.

Important: Due to the quadrupling of Tamworth- Armitage Junction and the re-modelling of Norton Bridge, present-day timetables are unlikely to be feasible for this simulation. You are advised to use the Rugby North and Staffordshire simulations for modern day workings.

There are a few things that may help with inputting timetables that need mentioning. They are summarised below.

When inputting trains into the timetable editor, certain locations must be included to satisfy the timetable editor’s requirements. These reflect the key timing points on the routes in the area simulated.

Below are the most important rules about the editor when inputting timetables:

Down Trains using the West Coast Route

Intermediate timing points need to be added for Armitage Junction, Colwich Junction, Stafford, Norton Bridge and Madeley and Crewe.

Trains crossing to Down Slow at Milford Junction need a Milford timing point and a line code of ‘SL’.

Line codes will automatically copy through these locations to keep the train on the straight route at each junction unless you tell it otherwise.

Up Trains using the West Coast Route

Timing points of Madeley, Norton Bridge, Stafford, (Whitehouse Junction optional), Colwich Junction, Armitage and Lichfield need to be added.

Line codes will automatically copy through these locations to keep the train on the straight route at each junction unless you tell it otherwise.

Trains Calling at Rugeley

Rugeley timing point is needed and it is recommended that for up trains, path code ‘SL’ and down trains path code ‘FL’ is included.

Trains Reversing at Rugeley

Rugeley timing point is needed both sides of a timing point (stopping) at Rugeley North.

A train from Lichfield to Brereton Sidings, for example, needs:- Armitage (line code ‘SL’ recommended, Rugeley, Rugeley North (Stop), Rugeley, Brereton Sidings.

Down Trains via Hixon

Timing points Armitage, Colwich (Path Code ‘SL’ to be added manually) and Stone Junction needed.

Up Trains via Hixon

Timing points Colwich (Path Code ‘STK’), Armitage and Lichfield.

Fastest route needs Line code ‘FL’ at Colwich.

Down Trains from Wolverhampton

First Timing point needed is Stafford

Penkridge is needed if the train is booked to stop there.

Up Trains to Wolverhampton

After Stafford, Bushbury Junction is needed.

If train is stopping in Rickerscote Loop then add this location with path code ‘SL’

If train is stopping in Penkridge then add this location.

Trains to Stone from Norton Bridge

After Stafford, next needed location is Norton Bridge (Path Code of ‘STK’ Must be added manually for Stoke trains).

The final location is Stone Junction.

Trains from Stone to Norton Bridge

First Location is Norton Bridge after the Entry at Stone Junction.

Platforming at Stafford

For Platform 5 (Down Slow), path code of ‘SL’ is needed at Stafford.

For Platform 4 (Up Slow), path code of ‘SL’ is needed at Stafford.

For Platforms 1, 3 and 6 (also 6N and 6S) then add the appropriate platform code needed.

Norton Bridge

Down Trains using the crossovers at the South end of the station needing to cross to another line will need the new line inputted as a path code. See above about trains to Stoke also.

Up Trains crossing from Stone Junction to the Down Platform Line at Norton Bridge need a path code of ‘PL’ and a line code of ‘SL’

Line Codes used at Stafford

As far as line codes are concerned they are listed as follows:

FL – Fast Line

SL – Slow Line (also platforms 4 and 5 at Stafford)

ML – Main Line

GL – Goods Line

PL – Platform Loop (Referring to Down Platform at Norton Bridge)

STK – Generic Term for line to and from Stone Junction (Stoke)

BCH – Generic Term for branch lines

1,3,6 – Platforms at Stafford

6S,6N – Platform 6 ‘South’ and Platform 6 ‘North’
