SimSig Victoria South Eastern Panel 8

Introduction

Panel 8 covers the section from Cambria Junction (inclusive) to Ravensbourne (exclusive). While one of the simpler panels to operate, getting the trains in the correct order and on the correct line at the various junctions will help your colleagues on adjacent panels enormously.

Locations

Cambria Junction to Crofton Road Junction

This brief four-track section usually has stopping trains on the Catford Loop lines (top). Both junctions need to be regulated carefully to ensure trains are in an appropriate order - freight trains especially may approach early.

Nunhead

Nunhead sees a junction where trains can head to Lewisham (London Bridge signal box) or continue towards Bellingham. The restrictive signalling on the Lewisham branch (see below) means trains will be slow approaching Nunhead.

Bellingham

A few trains can be stabled in the sidings here.

Signalling Arrangements

VS440

This signal will only show a single yellow at best when set towards VS438.

VS441 to L636

The section approaching Peckham Rye is quite short. Initially when route is set between these signals, signal VS441 will be held at red until a train approaches - a warner route. However, London Bridge can step the route up to a full route with an overlap. This will show as a solid white roundel on the "London Bridge control on VS441" indication. They will only do this if no train is approaching Peckham Rye on their other Up line as the full overlap blocks this route.

Lewisham Branch Signals

Due to interlocking issues in real life, many of these signals will never show better than a single yellow.

Bellingham Sidings

Inbound trains require the slot to be requested and given. Left-click on the green circle next to the exit arrow to request the slot. When it turns steady white, a route can be set from VS475 or VS685 into the siding.

Outbound trains will be reported to you by a phonecall. Take note of what the shunter says and interpose the headcode into the berth for signal VS686.

Fringes

Panel 8 connects with panels 6 and 7 at the north-west (left) end. No special operation is required for the handover in either direction to either of these panels. At the south-east (right) end is panel 10A which again requires no special operation.

This panel also chains with London Bridge at Nunhead, and at Peckham Rye. Only the route from VS441 to L636 requires any special notes, which are provided above.
