Introduction

The second part of the large and complex Doncaster PSB area to be released, the simulation places you in control of Panels 4 and 5 of the PSB. These cover the lines radiating from the north end of Doncaster station, giving you responsibility for short sections of the ECML and Leeds lines, and of a much longer section of the lines to Doncaster and Goole, along with all of the interconnecting lines between them used primarily by freight traffic. The 6 eras simulated chronicle the changing face of the area, as numerous collieries and power stations have closed over the period simulated.

The area sees a wide range of traffic. Frequent express passenger trains operate on all routes out of Doncaster, alongside an equally busy local and regional service. The line to Scunthorpe is the primary route to the many yards and sidings at Immingham port, not to mention those at Scunthorpe itself. Freights to and from these locations must be carefully threaded through the largely double-track main lines to avoid causing delay to passenger services- very easy when ECML trains bear down on junctions at 125mph! Getting services out of order can also have substantial knock-on effects, with little opportunity to allow trains to overtake. Although the Joan Croft flyover eases this burden in later eras, its opening unfortunately coincided with a reduction in coal traffic between Immingham and the Yorkshire power stations. There's no need to worry about all but one of the MCB and CCTV level crossings- as these are worked by local crossing keepers or a dedicated crossings desk in real life, they function automatically in the simulation, allowing you to focus on regulating traffic through the area.

Doncaster North is the second in the Doncaster series to be released; Doncaster South is already available, while Doncaster Station is in development.

Doncaster North is a payware simulation- to play beyond a short demo period requires the purchase of a license from the Products area .
