Manchester East

London Midland Region

Introduction

Manchester East places you in control of part of Manchester's suburban network, which also provides access to the main trans-pennine route to Huddersfield. There are also numerous yards in the area, and most of Manchester's freight traffic uses the area to bypass Manchester Piccadilly. The layout of lines in the area means that some trains take a rather convoluted route from their entry point to their destination!

Traffic is a mix of long distance inter-city workings, along with frequent local stopping services; freight traffic also has to be slotted through! Some lines are still signalled with mechanical signalling and absolute block, which is represented in the simulation. Good regulation is key to keeping everything moving.

Traffic patterns through the area change significantly in different eras, as different routes across Manchester and the Pennines go in and out of fashion; although only used by local services in the modern era, the route to New Mills was once the primary route to Sheffield, while the Denton line used to be used by long-distance passenger traffic from the south serving Manchester Victoria.

Manchester East is a payware simulation- to play beyond a short demo period requires the purchase of a license from the Products area .
