Saltley

London Midland Region

:usertrack:sims:saltleyoverview.gif

Introduction

The Saltley simulation is based on the former Saltley PSB, which controls the main south west- north east cross country route between Barnt Green and Tamworth (excluding New Street), as well as the former Great Western line from Birmingham to London as far as Warwick. It also covers the secondary line to Nuneaton, and local lines around Birmingham, including the Stratford-Upon-Avon branch. The simulation also contains the intermodal hubs at Hams Hall and Lawley Street, and freight train drivers are often relieved at Landor Street. Train services consist of frequent Cross-Country expresses and expresses to London from Birmingham Snow Hill, frequent local services between New Street and Redditch and local traffic between Smethwick, Dorridge, Shirley and Stratford. On top of that, a large amount of freight traffic passes through the area, with trains often running round at Washwood Heath. Regulation is key to keep the intensive flows of passenger and freight traffic on the move.

Saltley is currently free to download and play, although Donations are gratefully received.

I would like to thank the following people, in no particular order, without whose help and patience, this simulation would not have been possible (and if I have forgotten anyone then I apologise):

Geoff Mayo, for creating SimSig and allowing me to become part of the development team, Kurt Sickelmore, Neil Brady, Howard Potter, Clive Feather, Andy Greenland, Dave McCormick, Noel Young, Chris Law, Matt Cooper, Paul Curran, Ben Woodward, James Nelhams, and Thomas O'Flaherty.

I'd also like to thank the staff at various signal boxes in the area, as numerous Network Rail employees too numerous to mention.

Last but by no means least, the biggest Thanks must go to my wife, who put up with all the time I spent developing this simulation.

Dazza (Darren Goble)
