Introduction

Sandhills IECC controls the majority of Liverpool's 'Merseyrail' network of suburban lines. Although part Network Rail, the system is a self-contained metro operation with limited interfaces to the network, thanks to its 750V DC third rail system (the only such system outside the south east) and the restricted clearances within the city centre tunnels. Operations are split into the Northern and Wirral lines, each operating from tunnels within Liverpool city centre to various towns in the area, with only a single track connecting the two to allow rolling stock transfers.

As you'd expect, traffic is almost entirely passenger, with almost all routes operating to a 15 minute frequency. Additional movements include Northern and Welsh services at Southport and Bidston, and freight services to Liverpool docks, which are briefly under Sandhills' control. The default timetable also includes railhead treatment trains touring the network, and various daytime ECS moves between the two lines, which must all be fitted in to the busy metro service.

Sandhills is a Payware simulation- to play beyond a short demo period requires the purchase of a license from the Products area .
