Ground Frames

Ground Frames

Ground Frames (GF) are used to control access to sidings and yards by means of a lever frame situated on the ground adjacent to the siding it controls. This distinguishes it from a lever frame found inside a signal box. Control of operation of a ground frame is handed by the signaller to the frame operator. Often this is done by pressing a button on the panel releasing the GF. All signals protecting the GF will be held red by the interlocking.

Here is the Chorley Ground Frame .
