This has been concerning me for a while so I just wanted to ask.... Is the operation of the track circuits at Watford Junction in Platform 1 correct? See below image for why I'm concerned. Cropped screenshot showing the reason for this question. The interposed headcodes are the trains' current headcodes, whilst the stickied headcodes are their previous workings. You'll note how train 5L04 (ex 5X04, which enters at 05:50) only appears to operate the shorter of the two track circuits, that being TBF and not also the longer of the two track circuits, that being TBG. The other two trains you can see, 2C02 and 5L08, operate both track circuits in their respective Platforms, they being TBH & TBJ in Platform 2 and TBL & TBM in Platform 3. Just wondered really. As always, thanks in advance for the subsequent reply/replies. Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for. Log in to reply |

Yes, the track circuit boundaries are in slightly different places on the various platforms.

Whilst the block joints are slightly different position in the platforms a 3 car class 313 will completly fit in all stops end tracks on all platforms. Therefore platform 1 is corrrect and platforms 2 & 3 are incorrect as shown.

I've had to measure the track circuits off a scale diagram. Do you have the exact lengths?

There are two berths in each platform, strangely the forward berth being 00xx and the rear one B0xx, though if it had been done properly it should have been A0xx and B0xx. I will have access to the TC data next week so will post then.

It seems, that trains standing in platforms 3 & 4 (at the buffer end) are sometimes moved to the signal end of the platform when loading a save.

clive said:I've had to measure the track circuits off a scale diagram. Do you have the exact lengths?Info was closer to home than I thought, when the platforms were rebuilt prior to the resignalling the signals were placed in line, so all measurements are the same. The signal post to middle joint is 66.25m and the middle joint to stops joint is 72.5m this allows a 60.5m 3 car 313 to stop 2m from the stops leaving 76.25m for the second unit to run in. With the two units sperated by 2m in the platform this leaves the south end cab by 13.75m clear of the the signal and clear of the top of the platform ramp as required by thre HMRI. Log in to reply |

lnwr: thanks. I don't suppose you know how far beyond the signals the IBJs are?
