Hi all, I have a splash image that you can use for this sim if you like: It is an image of VC550 (left – red) and VC552 (right – yellow) taken from platform 5 at Battersea Park. In the distance are VC540 (left – double yellow) and VC542 (right – red). A Southern Class 377 unit of some kind can also be seen sitting in Battersea Pier Siding No. 1. In addition, does anybody know what the single white bar under VC550’s name-plate signifies? Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Not sure when your pic was taken, but in this clearer view of VC550 which, judging by the engineering work to repair the decking beneath Battersea Pier Sidings (recognisable by the blue netlon fencing in the distance), was taken fairly recently, the white bar is not discernible. The white triangle 'delta plate', denoting that this signal is incapable of displaying a red aspect, is also not visible. Log in to reply |

It was taken on 30TH January 2014 (which, looking at the URL, I think is after your link was taken) but I was working in the area until the first week of April and it was still like that then. Is that just not a standard "automatic" stripe? Does that make sense for this track layout?

An automatic plate has the colours inverted compared to the photo; that is a black stripe on a white background. VC550 was a distant signal and used to not be able to show a red. It would show blank when no route was set towards it. This has been changed over the Christmas/New Year 2013/14 blockade and it will show a red until a route has been set towards it, where it then will show proceed when the line is clear to the next signal. The previous signal will not show a proceed until VC550 shows at least a single yellow (ie: trains will never stop at a red signal on VC550). VC550 behaves like a repeater when a route is set towards it, but displays red the rest of the time. (There is no replacement button for this signal) Log in to reply |

As a part of the interlocking renewal the interlocking was changed to prevent VC550 signal showing a proceed aspect when VC552 signal is off hence thence the addition of a red aspect in the signal head. One of the reasons for this change was i believe as a result of signal misread that resulted in a CAT A SPAD on VC552 signal. Before the interlocking change VC550 Signal displayed a single yellow aspect when no route was set ahead of it (and not blank) as would any normally operating distant signal would.
