An acquaintance asked me a question the other day about how the Aldwych branch of the Piccadilly Line was signalled. It turns out I don't have any diagrams at all relating to it. Does anyone have a basic diagram of the branch and the junction with the main route, just showing where the signals are? (Though more detail is always welcome.)

Harsig is always a good resource for LU signal diagrams. There's a 1931 Picadilly line diagram available, which I doubt has had much changed in the meantime in the central tunnel sections.

Hmm, I'd forgotten about Harsig.

Someone else has sent me some stuff which shows that it *has* changed since then, two or three times.

How contemporary were you hoping for? Obviously the branch is not in regular use anymore. I understand it's used for filming, and there is a train down there which they can move. In connection with this, I think it is still possible to get trains on and off the branch, although I think that might change if/when Holborn is remodelled. I'm a bit out of the loop...

Here's a picture of Earl's Court control room from 2005.

Piccadilly line signalling is, I understand, in the process of being moved to a new control room as part of the Piccadilly Interim Control Upgrade. That might even already be complete. Out of the loop, as I say. The key point is the area may no longer be controlled from Earl's Court as we type, but I don't think the signals themselves have changed as part of the upgrade.

Thanks. That matches what I've got and illuminates some details.
