General messages

General messages

You may encounter the following general messages in the Messages window or panel. Thanks to Clive Feather for the original list. Messages found only on ARS simulations can be found on this list .

Message Meaning
...Update from server complete [multiplayer only] Your computer has now downloaded all necessary information from the host
barriers are down The barriers at this crossing are lowered and the clear button can now be pressed.
: train passed with crossing open A train has passed a level crossing when the barriers are up!
is short of rolling stock A siding entry location is running out of stock to form trains.
is short of storage space A siding exit location is running out of space, trains may be refused entry.
seconds approach locking The route set from the signal replaced to red will release in x seconds, due to approach locking
chaining arrangements inconsistent You have attempted to chain two simulations that are not the same version.
cannot be requested You cannot request this slot. For example, on a single line, a train is coming the other way
has been given The external signalbox has granted this slot, a route can now be set towards it.
has been requested An external box has requested a slot.
is collared You have applies a general isolation reminder to the slot, and therefore cannot request/grant it. Remove the reminder to request/grant.
arrived at The train arrived at on time,

minutes late or
x
minutes early.
delayed at due to
expected to depart at about 		This train has been delayed.
departed from The train departed from on time,

did not have permission () You have sent a train into a siding that requires a phone call to made to it, but have not made the phone call.
had permission, not () You have asked a siding for permission to send one train, but have sent a different train in instead!
has been sent onto a goods line A passenger train has beeen sent onto a goods line.
has entered the area () A train has entered your control area
has entered the area () with an invalid timetable The train that just entered your area has errors in its timetable.
has entered the area () with no timetable The train that just entered the area has no timetable assigned to it!
has finished dividing This train has completed all associated dividing activities.
has finished joining This train has completed all associated joining activities.

passed Train x passed a location either x minutes early, on time, or x minutes late.
received an adverse change of aspect at signal The train driver has seen a signal ahead change from a less restrictive to a more restrictive aspect.
running late approaching area - loss of power This train is running late, and will be slower to accelerate than normal.
running minutes late This train has been delayed by x minutes approaching the area
running minutes late because of a loss of power This train is running late, and will be slower to accelerate than normal.
running to not in timetable This train has been told to run to a special timing pattern, however the special timing pattern does not exist.
running with a loss of power This train will be slower acclerating than normal.
will be about minutes late entering your area This train will enter your area x minutes later than scheduled.
failure detected in the area A failure of trackside equipment has been detected near this location.
failure in the area fixed. The trackside failure near the location has been fixed
Attempting connection to server - please wait... [Multiplay only] The program is attempting to connect to the host's computer
Auto button is collared The Auto button on the signal has an isolation reminder applied.
Auto button requires route proved The route has not proved (i.e. the signal has not yet cleared), so auto working cannot be engaged yet
Auto button requires signal off Auto working cannot be engaged yet because it needs the signal to be showing a proceed aspect (one other than red).
Cancel the route before cancelling the You have attempted to cancel a slot before cancelling the route set onto the slot-controlled line.
Cannot apply reminder to this type of signal You have attempted to apply a general or traction isolation reminder to a repeater, banner repeater or distant signal.
Cannot cancel - signal has no associated berth There is no Train Describer berth at this signal, so you can't cancel any description!
Cannot cancel a queue berth You cannot cancel any train describer in an external 'queue' berth
Cannot cancel a route indication berth
Cannot cancel a workstation berth You cannot cancel the description in any berth used to house multiplayer names (these berths show vertical green bars instead of the usual grey)
Cannot cancel external berth You cannot cancel any train description in a berth controlled by another signalbox!
Cannot give This slot cannot be given, for one of a number of reasons, such as another train in the way.
Cannot give due to conflicting route locking This slot cannot be given, as the piece of track it governs has a route set in the other direction.
Cannot interpose - signal has no associated berth This signal does not have a Train Describer berth, so you can't interpose into it
Cannot interpose into a queue berth You cannot interpose a train description in an external queue berth
Cannot interpose into a route indication berth
Cannot interpose into a workstation berth You cannot interpose into a berth that is used for a client name in multiplay. These berths generally display vertical green bars when not in use.
Cannot interpose into an external berth You cannot interpose into a berth that is controlled by another signalbox
Cannot isolate point You have attempted to apply an isolation reminder to a point.
Cannot isolate subarea You have attempted to apply an isolation reminder to a an ARS subarea.
Cannot lock frame The ground frame has been left in a way that means it cannot be locked, re-check the groundframe.
Cannot lock frame with reminder applied You have applied a general reminder to a ground frame release, meaning that you cannot operate it until you remove the reminder.
Cannot move point with reminder applied You have applied a general reminder to a point, and have attempted to move it. Remove the reminder to move the point.
Cannot release frame Points/signals are set in a way that makes it unsafe to unlock the ground frame
Cannot release frame with reminder applied You have applied a general isolation reminder to a ground frame, which must be removed before the ground frame can be released
Cannot remove isolation from subarea For some reason, it is not possible to remove a reminder from an ARS subarea control.
Client at has connected [Multiplay only] A client has connected to the simulation
Client at has disconnected [Multiplay only] A client has disconnected from the simulation

[Multiplay only] You are now connected to a simulation
Control has reminder applied You cannot operate this control as it has a reminder applied. Remove the remider to operate it.
Crossing blocked by road vehicle A vehicle is trapped between the crossing barriers, raise the barriers to release it, then re-lower so that the train can pass.
Crossing failure at The barriers at an AHB have been down for an unusually long amount of time
Crossing not closed Signaller attempted to set a route over an open level crossing of the type which must be closed (barriers lowered) before a route can be set over it

[Multiplay only] You have disconnected from a simulation
Emergency button is collared You cannot clear this automatic signal, because you have applied an isolation reminder to the emergency button. Remove the reminder to release
Excessive delay to road users at The crossing barriers have been down for an excessive amount of time (see individual manual for definition of 'excessive')
Excessive delay without a train to road users at The crossing barriers have been down for an excessive amount of time, with no trains passing. See individual manual for definition of excessive.
Non-described train sent to fringe signalbox! A train with no describer has been sent to an external signalbox
Not available in client mode [Multiplayer only] Clients cannot access this function
Not available when chained to an external signalbox You cannot carry out this action, as you are chained to another simulation, and that simulation controls that action.
Now synchronised with When chaining to another simulation, this message appears to indicate that all data has been synchronised between the two simulations.
Point must be keyed before setting reminder Points must be keyed (blue) before a general isolation reminder can be set.
Press the OVR button before starting routesetting ([Paged simulations only] When setting a route using collared signals, press the OVR button before clicking the entry signal.
Requesting data from server - please wait... [Multiplayer only] The simulation is downloading all required information from the host.
Server has disconnected you [Multiplay only] The host has disconnected you. NOTE: This will also display if you have entered the wrong i.p. adress or port!
Simulation failed to save The simulation has been unable to save for some reason.
Simulation is paused Some simulations will not allow any action (e.g. routesetting, phone answering) while paused
Simulation saved ok The simulation has successfully been saved.
Snapshot saved If you have snapshots enabled, this message appears to indicate that it has saved successfully.
Subarea is collared You cannot engage this ARS subarea because a reminder has been placed on it. Remove the reminder to operate the ARS.
The host at
has rejected your connection attempt.
[Multiplayer only] The host is not allowing you to join this simulation
Timetable failed to save The system has been unable to save the timetable.
Timetable saved ok The timetable saved successfully.
Train has entered the area () A train has entered the controlled area
Train has entered the area () with an invalid timetable Train x has entered the area with a timetable which is invalid. Edit the timetable and ensure it validates before proceeding.
Train has entered the area () with no timetable The train which just entered at location x has no timetable!
Train on green MWL at A train has passed an MWL crossing which was showing a green light.
Train on open AHB at A train has passed over an AHB crossing with the barriers raised.
TRTS at The TRTS has been operated at location or signal x.
TRTS for Train x is ready to start.
TRTS for at This train is ready to start at this location
Workstation calls transferred back to server [Multiplayer only] You have relinquished control of a workstation.
Workstation calls transferred to client at
[Multiplauer only] You have taken control of a workstation
You sent a train on to a single line without a pilotman!
