Freight Train consist info/Loco numbers 11/02/2023 at 01:45 #150437

Hi all,

I’ve recently started making timetables based off info available on sites like realtimetrains.com

While this has proved to be a great help in inputting the services and time points, as well as providing the majority of the passenger service unit numbers that ran on the day, I’ve found that most of the freight services have very limited information regarding consists (locomotive type/numbers).
The timetable I’ve just finished inputting is for the West Yorkshire sim, so it’s quite freight intensive compared to the others I’ve done thus far.

Could someone point me in the direction of any resource(s) that provide such info?
Would be most grateful!

Thanks in advance

That information doesn't tend to be publicly available. The railway has only recently opened up the access to unit numbers and some freight operators locomotive allocations.

Some TT writers work in the industry and are able to replicate exact or typical formations.

Other typical workings outside of that could be gained from observation or looking online for photos and educated guesswork.

Icey,

Here are a few consists/lengths for you (these are from September 2021 but are a useful guide);

6M25 03:32 Doncaster Down Decoy GB Railfreight - Arcow Quarry GBRF (GBRf Cl.66/7 & 21 empty HYA/IIA) = 412m
6E66 21:25 Oxwellmains Lafarge Colas Rail - Hunslet Yard Colas Rail (Colas Cl.70/8 & 20 loaded JPA) = 345m
4E91 02:15 Southampton Marine Container Terminal - Leeds Freightliner Terminal (FL Cl.66/5 & 25 Freightliner flats) = 528m
4E23 05:50 Felixstowe North Freightliner Terminal - Leeds Freightliner Terminal (FL Cl.66/9+Cl.66/5 & 21 Freightliner flats) = 521m
0E03 13:54 Earles Sidings (Hope) Freightliner Heavy Haul - Leeds Balm Road Loco Freightliner Heavy Haul (FL Cl.66/6x2) = 42m
4E24 10:57 London Gateway Port Line 2 - Leeds Freightliner Terminal (Cl.66/5 & 22 Freightliner flats) = 587m
6D40 16:50 Scunthorpe Anchor GB Railfreight - Hunslet Tilcon GBRF (GBRf Cl.66/7 & 27 loaded HYA) = 425m
4E59 18:30 Felixstowe North Freightliner Terminal - Leeds Freightliner Terminal (FL Cl.66/4 & 24 Freghtliner flats) = 546m

HTH

When in doubt - Contingency plan 2A. Someone didn't buy the milk - 2A. Someone sneezed at Swansea - 2A. A driver complains the cab is too cold - 2A.

As you can see from the good Officers list above, Freightliners are a complete pain in the derriere. Due to various flat wagon types with differing lengths you can have a train of 22 Flats being longer than a train with 24 flats.
