I've paid a visit to the NRM today to have a look at a green steam powered Cash machine. Whilst there I noticed PREP entered in York IECC's describer for scarbro siding and for the Harrogate bay. If makes sense for the siding as it will remind the signaller theres a train there, but why is prep entered in the Harrogate bay? Is it to prevent ARS setting a route or something else? Could it be there's staff prepping the unit, so they don't want to bring anything in on top of it?

A leeds-york got put on top of it so doubt it. I think it might actually just be because theres no booked shunt in ARS?

Unless I've missed something Harrogate still has its own signal box. Harrogate has a work station controlling the line from the fringe at the Leeds end and a frame for the Harrogate area itself. Assuming you mean the Scarborough Siding next to (underneath on the screen) platform 2 then that would be a non-ARS route because it's not track circuited. For the Harrogate bay (8?) was it interposed at the buffer stop end or the signal end? [Edit] Just looked at Open Train Times and they're both still showing PREP, signal end for P8. The latter certainly would stop ARS routing out (as well as lack of TRTS) but if the track circuits were clear then it wouldn't have stopped ARS putting anything in there. I have asked a signaller that works York South and he's said that it is a visual remember that the train has been Prepped ready for (Monday) Morning.
