Hello all, Has anyone seen this site yet? http://sites.google.com/site/railwayoperationsimulator/ I have downloaded it, it is a bit like SimSig but at the moment has no delays, LC's, variety of signals but that could change in the future it being a beta. I haven't made the program, however I made the LU Victoria Line panel for it (which is on the site). You'll also find screenies of Slough IECC panel I am working on too. Cheers, James. Yeah, I've had a play of both the Liverpool & Birmingham ones. The liverpool one was fairly easy to handle, but Birmingham was a struggle, especially once I got a route set over junction and couldn't cancl it. The instructuions are written like an essay and hard work to follow. They could really do with simpfying. I also found that the detail, lines, trains etc were very small.

Just had a quick look at the website and manual. I didn't download the software. Looks promising though. I like the idea of being able to build your own simulation. Looks like all units are metric. Having the option to use miles and chains and MPH would be nice when laying out track and features and setting line and train speeds. Also, it appears signals are all four aspect. To get round these shortcomings it would be really nice if the whole project was open source allowing anyone with the necessary programming skills to develop and enhance the features and upload for others to share. Perhaps that's a direction SimSig, which is excellent and is going to take some beating, might take one day?

Albert will be hoping others can join in to add or change things. I did mention about the fact there is only 4 aspect signals, but said it is hoped to include a array of other things, after all, it is a very early beta so far. James. Log in to reply |

With all due respect to those posting in this thread and with out wishing to decry other programs, is the SimSig Forum quite the place to have a discussion about software which could even be seen as a competitor for SimSig?

Hmmm Well I will say Postal, please accept my apologies, I never meant to put it that way :( I can't see it being a competition though to be fair, at the end of the day both are free for the communities, apart from one layout there is none covering the current SimSig maps and it doesn't have the same interface, nor is there failures, blockades, LC's, train lengths etc, I think railways is just a fun little operations sim and could be an opportunity to cover places SimSig can't (I don't mean that in a bad way, I mean cover areas that are 100% impossible for Geoff). I was interested to see this and had a play. Currently it is almost un-playable but it is a good start. Simsig is and always will be the most accurate simulator of railway signalling in the UK but i can see this being a good other game for people to play. I like to know about all "games" like this and think that this open mic forum is a very good place for it Log in to reply |

I wasn't trying to have a go at anyone or suggest that there was any competition between various bits of software. However, this site is operated by and funded by the people who create and use SimSig. although its only a BETA release, BNS hasnt got the main Cross Country services i.e Bristol Temple Meads tp Manchester Piccadilly. It Doesnt have the Arrviva` from Aberystwyth and the Cambiran/Chester/Holyhead. The Liverpool Lime Streets and Shrewsbury`s are missing but it seem a good sim although Simsig will forever be the better sim Log in to reply |

BNS = Barnes, BHM = Birmingham New Street (pet peeve!) Not sure if there's an easy way to bulk add timetables, would be nice if it stretched to my screen resolution too! Log in to reply |
