When playing on a new sim I often get caught out by not knowing the existence of speed limits.
I know they are available publicly on the Network Rail website, but they are not always easy to find!
And then I thought - how about the ability to impose speed limits on sections of track, as a simulation of a real problem?
If the ability to add a speed limit could be made available, it would also then be relatively easy to make the existing speed limit available to be seen as well.

So how about adding a speed limit as an option?

In the newer sims, you can impose TSRs from the incident control panel (F11)

A feature such as Tony is suggesting would be ideal for emergency speed limits - request by phone (supposedly from PWay etc?) requiring signal holding at danger and drivers cautioning. It would need some kind of feed from F11 input (or whatever random hazard generator afflicts us poor hardworking signalmen) :-) so that location could be sensibly advised (ESR locations and speeds show up as options in phone messages to drivers?). It might also allow uncautioned trains to run at line speed (with suitable penalty) although i can see that being a bit more difficult to arrange. Ideally would need some mechanism for preventing penalty for any train already past the last controlled signal but I guess that too would be in the difficult to arrange category.
