Western Chain Help Please 10/10/2011 at 16:41 #21618

I am running Swin/Did, Westbury, Gloucester and Bristol chained with the Oct '09 timetable. All appears to be going well but when I send a train from Swin/Did to either Gloucester or Westbury the exiting track circuit fails to clear and remains white preventing me from sending another train.

I sent a late running 2M10 from Swin/Did to Gloucester and it was picked up fine by Gloucester but now I have 1G11 waiting to leave Kemble on the Swin/DId sim in front of a red but I can't set the route. 1G11 is showing on the Gloucester sim as waiting at Kemble with a green light.

Similarly I sent a train to Westbury via Melksham but the track circuit didn't clear behind it and now I can't set the route to send a train in the opposite direction.

Any help/thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks! Nick

What's the status of the trains in the F2 train list window? Specifically Swindid but Gloucester/Westbury might yield clues also.

1G11 called in to SwinDid saying it was waiting at a red signal. The train had yet to enter the Gloucester panel. In the end I authorised it to pass the signal at danger and it duly left SwinDid and entered the Gloucester panel and is now proceeding normally albeit with the delay.

Currently on the Westbury panel the track from SwinDid to Westbury is lit white with the Melksham down arrow illuminated but there is no slot selected on SwinDid or Westbury and I can't get this to clear no way no how preventing me from sending a train from Westbury to Swindon. Passengers on 2M10 had a lengthy diversion via Bristol but thankfully I don't deal with their letters of complaint.

Cheers
Nick

It is possible the Swindid-Gloucester interface is out of date. I'm not aware of any problems reported on the Westbury interface- have other trains crossed OK or is this first train of the day?

Could the offending track circuits be cleared by the F11 screen?

An earlier train went Swindon to Westbury and left the track circuits white behind them and it's not possible to clear them and set a different route.

1G11 progressed from SwinDid to Gloucester panel and now after cancelling the exit route from SwinDid I can now re-set it and get a green on the exit signal from SwinDid to Gloucester.

The F11 option enables me to occupy the track circuits on the Melksham line but they weren't occupied as in showing red in the first place - they were white. Now having occupied the Melksham track circuits it doesn't seem possible to unoccupy them.

All good fun!

I would say Peter may be right in the chaining data not being quite correct, can't see any other explanation.

I have tried F11 occupy and clear of all tracks on the Melksham Branch on each sim individually and not had any trouble clearing them again.

Other thing you may or may not have tried is that some of them are indicated on both sims with the same T/C letters so might need to be cleared on the F11 panel on both sims in order to release.

Have you got all the chains/ext SBs set up OK, ie as well as Swindid-Bristol chain, the Glocester-Swindid and Westbury-Swindid links are set correctly (including one only set as synched)?
I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

I will look into the chain issues raised and have a fiddle.

Thanks for all your suggestions

I've not had any trouble chaining up all five west country games, have you made sure they are all chained together and not just chained to say one other of the sims?

The Swindid to Gloucester Issue results from the auto button selected on the exit signal from SwinDid. Deselected the route clears fine and I can send successive trains.

Just sent a train down the Melksham route to Westbury. Will see if the route clears behind it.

I'll write soon with details of how I go about chaining these sims which I suspect might be more through luck than management!

Thanks
Nick
