Running 2006 v1.3 non-ARS.

1. Routed a terminating up HST into P20 instead of P11 due to late running. Driver calls up 'waiting at red signal E448'. Had to edit the timetable to persuade the system that the train had arrived.

2. Routed terminating up DMU 2L84 into P18 instead of P1, again due to late running. This time, the status is 'Run out of valid track', so no phonecall and it missed its departure time by a mile.

In both cases, ACI worked as expected (EDIT i.e. the new headcode was interposed in case 1 and not in case 2)

I can understand that the routing and the East/West locations make this complicated, but problem 2 is frustrating. A saved game is available.

Thanks,
Graham

Is problem 2 to do with an electric train trying to run over non-electrified track?

See the Wiki Manual: http://www.SimSig.co.uk/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=usertrack:mans:edinoview#ohe_area

EDIT: Oh, you said Diesel Multiple Unit. No idea, then :-S

Try editing the location from Edinburgh to Edinburgh West or vice versa before the train arrives, and all should be OK.

In case 1), the train is continuing to run up through P20 to reach ED west, whereas it's arriving at ED;

In case 2), the train is trying to reach ED, and runs out of valid track at the P18 buffers, but will arrive and take up next working if the TT has been edited to ED west - assuming it's not a through train of course.

{Matt, would have called incorrect route if routed off juice rather than out of valid track}

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

OK, withiout the benefit of either the Sim ot timetable in front of me the following should be the case.

All plarforms should be coded as Edinburgh so any train booked Edinburgh Waverely should tick off and act correctly wherever it arrives. The only issue being if a through train is sent to a terminal platform but that'd be an obvious problme requiring intervention.

EDB (East) and (West) are the respective ends of the relevant through lines and are not designed to be used as stand-alone locations (though they can) but rather in connections with
a) shunting with reference to the main location
b) Providing ARS with an alternative through routing to the default which is to cross the central X.

P20 and P21 are coded to recognise E/W location but it's not possible to actually write a timetable to them using E/W.

Testing did show the a combined EDB + EDB(E) or (W) location list should be accepted by 20/21- if you say it's not then I'll revisit.

The Eas/West location is not recognised by the termianal platforms- maybe it should.

Peter,

As usual, you have the answer. 2L84 was diagrammed to terminate at Edinburgh (West). Changing the location to Edinburgh works fine with ARS into P1 and manually into P1 or P18.

I haven't been able to track down the train which was my case 1, but I'm pretty sure that had Edinburgh (West) as the terminating location.

Perhaps it would help if East/West worked into terminal platforms, but perhaps all it needs is a note to timetable editors not to terminate trains at East or West - if I understand you correctly.

Thanks again,
Graham

Have just been fiddling with the Sim & timetable and due to major changes in the way ARS works (it's more intuitive now) since the current release some of the timetabling that was used to get round some of the limitations (and in consequence reduced the flexibility) are not needed in most cases now. To get it to work at its optimum (ARS that is) it does appear that the insertion of the East/West passing location is best but to have the end location as the main EDB location. Running non-ARS it's irrelevant whether the intermediate pass is there or not.

Complicated shunts like the sleeper needs the East/West/EDB locations all mixed up and I'd suggest trying to get ARS to work that is, as previously, fraught- but it's only 2 trains out of several 100.

I'll speak to James (my timetable expert) shortly.
