Does Kings Norton have restricted electric traction? Had a cl 323 unable to travel from P4 to down fast. Unable to find anything about traction in Wiki.

I believe at one time it was considered to wire-up the fast lines between KNN and LOB

Electrification wasnt done brillaintly on the Cross City Line. Only the Slows were Electrified apart from the points across the fasts at Longbridge to lead into the Turnback Siding.

Just to correct one of the posts.

The UP & DOWN fasts between King's Norton and Longbridge are NOT wired.

I suppose it may have something to do with BR not considering it necessary for passenger trains which all call at all stations to need to access the Fast Lines in this area.

Downside is that they would provide a useful diversionary route to work around faults and other incidents. The "middle" platforms at Kings Norton and Northfield fell into disuse at about the same time as the electrification scheme so could have (and indeed could still) have been made available for such use. Longbridge is a little more difficult as it is a modern station which has only ever had platforms on the slow lines.

Similarly, electrifying the Goods lines between Longbridge and Cofton (Down) / Barnt Green (Up) and upgrading them for passenger standard would also be beneficial.

Infact King's Norton still has the bridge access to the island platform albeit the entrance is boarded up. It would prove useful if the fasts were wired, as it would if the Camp Hill lines were wired.

If the Camp Hills were electrified, then you could have a Redditch - Redditch Service (Saltley Project X me thinks!)

If my memory serves me correctly, Northfield is the same. bricked up top and bottom.

Could still do that for Project X - just use a 172

That's true - just send it via the Camp Hill and tell it to use its emergency generator. Might lose a lot of points in the process if were going to do that all day.

another thing to add to manual!

Only the slow lines from Kings norton (Inclusive) to Longbridge, the only the main lines from longbridge to Barnt green - Redditch are wired.

Manaul says:
"South Top
South Top panel covers the line from Bromsgrove via Kings Norton to New Street. At Kings Norton a route branches leading to Bordesley Jn and Saltley, but note that it is also another route to New Steet. A single track branch runs from Barnt Green to Redditch. This is electrified from New Street, but note that only the slow lines are electrified between Kings Norton and Longbridge. There is also a depot at Kings Norton, and a connection to the Rover Car plant at Halesowen."

Andy, I should have said "where in the manual"? What you quoted is not visible in the Saltley Manual.
