Based around the Shrewsbury area, how about a simulation along the Welsh Borders? The sim could perhaps have its southern end at Hereford passing through Shrewsbury towards Wrexham. From Wrexham the Chester branch and Bidston branch would diverge. Saltney Jcn could come under a future Chester & North Wales sim, and the Border line would continue to Bidston. MerseyRail services could be coded in for just the Bidston area to make that location a bit more challenging. The Dee Marsh steel trains are heavily restricted because of heavy axle weight and the gradients, so possible delay to the Borderlink Bidston to Wrexham services might occur.

At the Shrewsbury end the sim could include the Cambrian and Central Wales routes - with a little licence given towards the RETB system on the Cambrian. In fact, as the RETB system is basically a system of STOP boards with drivers instructed by the Machynlleth signaller to pass the Stop boards to enter the next "token" section, this could work in the sim as a straight PSAD system

I would love to see a sim that includes my local area. Which is basically all of what you have just described.

So your looking at a sim including the following boxes:

  • Dee Marsh (TCB to Sandhills - AB to Penyfford)

  • Penyfford (AB to Dee Marsh - AB to Croess Newydd North Fork)

  • Croess Newydd North Fork (AB to Penyfford - AB to Gobowen - TCB to Chester - OTW without Staff to Wrexham Central

  • Gobowen (AB to Croess Newydd North Fork - TCB to Crewe Junction)

  • Crewe Junction

  • Crewe Bank

  • Harlescott

  • Severn Bridge Junction

  • Abbey Forgate Junction

  • Sutton Bridge Junction

Certainly plenty of interesting stuff in there.

The Cambrian line is now signalled by ERTMS, which in my thinking is just Track Circuit Block, so no reason why this couldn't be included.

Sounds an interesting Sim, not too familiar with that area of the world, but would certainly like to give it a go if it ever came about.

also nothing wrong with simming it before ERTMS was introduced, using stop boards instead of permissions to move.

the cambrian, even as a single player panel would be intensely boring to do in my humble opinion.

that said id love to see a sim roughly covering the following:

a wrexham panel ( saltney jcn - coton hill inclusive of croes neywwd and possibly the line to dees marsh)

a shrewsbury panel (crewe junction, abbey forgate and severn bridge)

a hereford panel (english bridge - hereford inclusive of craven arms and sutton bridge)

a crewe line panel

wellington onwards could be included to include madeley and/or cosford boxes

It may be the case that the Cambrian may be banned territory for SimSig as the ERTMS Signallers interface resembles and functions like IECC/WestCad (it may even be WestCad) and there is the possibility as such that there might be a TreSim conflict of interest issue.

Whilst I appreciate there may be issues with the Cambrian Line, I can still see it as being quite feasible. I was referring to the Cambrian as still being RETB as opposed to ERTMS. From a train drivers point of view, in RETB he (or she) is the individual who intiates first contact by calling Machynlleth SB on the radio transceiver. In essence, this is simply like a train driver asking to pass a STOP board at Danger in normal operations. The driver is supposed to make contact whilst the train is stationary.

BoxBoyKit reckons that the Cambrian line may be boring, but there are ways to increase the workload. When I was working for DB Schenker we used locomotive moves for route learning. Also, Rail Head Treatment Trains work over the Cambrian, and when I was working over there DRS were also operating test trains. Factor these services into the simulation and the Cambrian begins to get a bit crowded. You could even add the stock movement for the erstwhile Cambrian Coast Express arriving for the summer season.

If the Manchester and Lancashire boxes are made, there can be a link between Lancs-Manchester-Crewe-Wales. Id really love to see this.

I was just reading back through the Simulation Wish List section of the forum and came across this post I made.

1214 days later it would be possible to play all of those areas in Simsig. Albeit not as I originally imagined it as one large sim.
