My sister was with Millies mum when she read my text message of the amount raised - there was a sharp intake of breath, followed by an "Oh my life!"!

Thanks everyone who donated for Millie. I'll get the tours organized as soon as I can.

Ray.

West Hampstead shift work (8 hours)

My thanks to Ray and his work colleagues for allowing me to have a 8 hour shift Tuesday, with hands on signalling trains on panel 2, & panel 3, & the westcad system. Panel 4 I forgo as my mind was blown by the info needed for the others. Track circuit failures and bomb scare at Bedford made for a lot of good regulation by all the signallers working that day.
It has been an earth shattering experience for a SimSig signaller and again my thanks to Geoff for allowing and organizing with Ray for this to happen.
Andrew your next on Friday be prepared to be amazed, and very tired at the end of the shift.
Thanks again to all involved.

Mike.

Glad you both had a good day.

The day after your tour Nathan I had one of those days! First an HST had a fire alarm and the extinguishers fired in the power car. An FCC 319 unit had a bell instead of a horn approaching a red signal, so all other trains had to be advised until data was downloaded from the train. The unit had to go empty stock to Bedford at 40mph. An FCC approaching Luton couldn't see aspects on a signal due to bright sunshine. A second train was advised and asked to report back, but couldn't see the aspects either! We then had to treat that signal as defective until the sun moved and a driver reported no sighting problems.

I finished up with a driver getting a change of aspect! I pulled an auto button up on a green signal then sat down. The SSM then asked me if I had reset a signal for a train at a red. I looked up and it was the signal where I had pulled the auto. The route was still in and the signal wasn't flashing red, so I knew I hadn't taken the signal back in front of the driver. Turned out to be a problem with the button - the driver approached on green and it reverted to red in front of him - good job he was stopping there!

Adding to Mike's post I was the other lucky person who was able to spend a whole shift with Ray last Thursday. My day passed with less incidents than Mike with most of the shift spent on Panel 4. I also had the opportunity to spend an hour on the Westcad as well as a spell on Panel 2 and a flying visit to Panel 3 before I headed home. You can see some pictures from my visit at:

Here is one of my host with Panel 4 in the background.

And just to prove I was there one of me on Panel 3. IT40 has just crossed from the Down Fast to the Down Slow at Radlett Junction. I'm just about to set the route for the next train on the Down Fast which was rapidly approaching.
