Apologies - using an old S K Baker from 1990.

Have to go Manchester Victoria - Preston - Carnforth - Barrow which takes a nice chunk of mileage out.

Piccadilly line. Get on at Osterley headding westbound pass through, Houndslow East, Houdslow Central, Houndslow West, Hatton Cross, Heathrow terminal 4, Heathrow terminals 123,
Hatton Cross, Houndslow West, Houdslow Central, Houndslow East.

Possible because you go round a loop at heathrow and back. :)
Copying off that you could always go Cockfoster, through Central London, round Heathrow loop (Terminal 4) do the full 8 minute stop for PNB etc then back to Cockfosters.

Alternatively, you could always go Northern Line either Edgware or High Barnet to Kennington (only via CharingX branch - I think), round the Kennington loop then back to the same station again!

I'm too lazy to work out main line route - I do that enough when signalling the ruddy trains

Great work all. The more the merrier.

I will be using Google Earth over Xmas (as I wait for the New Year) to check out
the routes and milages.

Should then have an answer for you GoochyB.

No prize for the winner though, sorry.

Don't time charters but I am a planner for Network Rail with national rights to plan freights over the whole network :-) (If you see a 70 I probably had something to do with it!)

Hmm might have gone slightly wrong around Leeds.
You reversed at either York or Leeds, depending on whether York-Leeds was via Church Fenton or Harrogate.

Unless a ferry is cheating (which I guess it is) you could go from Londonderry-Larne-Stranraer-Glasgow-Edinburgh-Doncaster-Peterborough-Ipswich-London-Gatwick-Worthing-Salisbury-Exeter-bristol-reading-london-birmingham-carisle-back to londondery
dont know but you might be able to cross london one more time and stretch a loop out via dover? Could also complete another loop by going -reading-london-tube-paddington-back to reading-swindon-birmingham snow hill-london-tube again-rugby-crewe and onwards?
I would hate to see the fare.

That reminds me, the FCC ticket office at Kings Cross explicitly advertises that it sells tickets "to all UK destinations" - I've not put it to the test yet... but the web-site ticket booking system will not.
