Does any one know how I can download and run Liverpool Street on to a windows 64 bit pc? I found the download for Stafford for the same but was wondering if Liverppol Street had aslo had a down load for windows done as well. I have tried running the set up after downloading the sim but get the same error message.

i was lucky enough to have a spare old laptop, to which i installed liverpool st to a temp directory, then moved the files into my SimSig folder on my new laptop and created a shortcut manually.

edit: would it be possible for the older sims like liv st, didcot, swindon etc to be placed on the downloads section with the raw files for us to manually install?

When I click to install the software this is the message that I recieve.

"The version of this file is not compatable with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computers system information to see whether you need an x86 [ 32-bit] or x64 [ 64-bit] version of the programme and then contact the software publisher"

Any one able to help?

i had the same issue (i have win7 with 64 running) so you arent alone. if one of the forum moderators can confirm to me its ok to email you the extracted files, im happy to do that and let you place them into the SimSig folder yourself, thereby bypassing the compatability issue

I would get admin pernission or moderator jc92 before sending any files. Only rule 11 on the code of conduct may not allow you to send me the files. If admin or moderator will not allow you then it is no problem jc92 as I would not want you or me to fall foul of breaking any SimSig rules.

So is it the installation process that's not working rather than the Sim itself?

Only Geoff can give permission to re-distibute as it's his licence. As you may know Geoff has recently emigrated to America and although he has around from time to time it may take a while to get back into SimSig mode and respond.

In the meantime if anyone knows of a way round the installation problem maybe they can advise. Which 64 bit OS is it you have? I have Win7 64bit but have not tried to install it myself.

Peter, I think it was concluded some time ago on the forum that the problem was the installer and it could only be solved by re-packaging the files into a new 64-bit compatible installer.

Running the old ones as a 32-bit using Windows options doesn't work either.

On the downloads page, there is a file submitted by Albert, which I have downloaded and I know works, where he has re-packaged Stafford for 64-bit computers. The fact that it was approved as an upload points to it being authorised by Geoff, although I cannot of course be 100% certain of this.

The sims themselves all work, it is just a case of being able to install them onto the computer.

This simplest way is to use the compatability mode in Win7 and launch the program in either Vista or XP mode. The problem......and there is always one........is that this only works if you have Win 7 Professional. If you have Win 7 Home Premium it will not work and you would have to upgrade to XP Professional and therein is the next sting as Microsoft want £120 to upgrade. :woohoo:

You cant run 16bit software on 64bit machines, 32bit machines can handle it, but not 64, You may need to setup a vitual machine on your pc, but other wise nothing will work. The installer could be 16 bit and the sim it self could be 32, so you will need to extract the setup file. But if its all 16bit, then its not gonna happen.

Right. For Stafford I've made my own installer, and that way the sim runs fine on 64-bit.

The installers of those old sims are cheap Windows 3.1 software which is compiled 16-bit. If your CPU is in 64-bit mode (as opposed to a 32-bit OS), it isn't able to run 16-bit code.

The sims themselves are 32-bit so working fine as that's still supported on 64-bit OS.

And the licence in those days said you could redistribute it so long as no money was exchangd

The old website

Above is the error message I recieve when I try to run the set up for the Liverpool Street sim. There is no problem downloading it from the SimSig down load site. In fact I thought that as the Liverpool sim was zipped ,as per the Stafford sim, I was under the impression that it had also been altered / changed so as per the Stafford sim it could be run on a windows 7 64 bit pc. As Stephen as already posted I think it is the installer that is the problem not the actual sim.

If Liverpool Street was packaged for down load as the Stafford sim was then it would make Liverpool street work, I think.

The problem is that the installer used is 16 bit, and Windows 7 64-bit no longer has the 16 bit subsystem required to run it.

You might be able to extract it using a ZIP compatible utility however.

If you still have (or can get access to) an older machine with a 16-bit or 32-bit OS (perhaps XP or earlier Windows) you could run the setup.exe file on that machine and then copy the folder where you installed the program (and sub-folder with the TTs) across to the W7 machine.

You could try this,

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/

Virtual PC download xp mode and try that. Its supposed to be able to run the older programs. Might be worth a shot.
