Cross Country Voyager Diagrams 03/06/2012 at 09:21 #32730

I wonder if anyone can help. I'm currently trying to assign DMUs (class 220/221) to the cross country voyager services, however because i can't find any diagrams for the services, i'm having to construct it myself. Using data from the cross country timetables and open train times i have got all of the services in (both passenger servies and the ECS movements) however currently i have an uneven number of voyages entering and exiting the depots. I am making a set of timetables for Monday 28th May (the one just gone)
Currently the depots causing me problems are
Craigentinny T.&r.s.m.d [CRGNTNY] which has 5 units leaving the depot during the day (all in the morning) but 6 enter the depot (all in the evening)
Barton Under Needwood Rsmd [BTNUNMD] which has 16 units depart from the depot but only 14 enter the depot
Eastleigh Trsmd [ELSHTMD] which has 7 units depart by 8 arrive

Now i do admit that there could be 10 spare units on monday morning at BTNUNMD and these get sent throughout the week to craigentinny and eastleigh for saturday and sunday services, but i highly doubt that as overcrowding on cross country trains is quite a common problem so they won't be using only 85% of their voyagers each weekday with 15% not being used each day. (this also doesn't fully work as they'll be 2 short as cross country operate 57 voyagers and i have worked out a diagram for 49 of them)

On of the main problems is that most voyagers are booked to use platform 3 which is only long enough to hold 1 voyager so that limits the serivces for getting the extra voyager from ELSHTMD to BTNUNMD. Out of the 3 services that do not use platform 3 at reading and arrive at BTNUNMD in the evening, they require the ECS either from ELSHTMD in the morning or to BTNUNMD in the evening to consist of 3 voyagers joined together, but i wasn't sure if 3 voyagers can run coupled together, i know 2 can cause i have them running together in the diagrams (and also have seen it in real life) but does anyone know, can 3 be ran together?

With CRGNTNY again i can make it work for me, however again it involves a 3 voyagers leavign from CRGNTNY to EDB coupled together

if anyone can shed some light on this i would appreciate it.
If it helps i can send the person the diagram that i have made but going through that will probably come out with the same answer that i have, you either send the looping out of the depot back into the same depot rather than anything useful, you need to do 3 unit ecs runnings, reading platform 3 has a black hole at the buffer end of it to allow 2 voyagers into it at the same time, or it simply can't be done and cross country can't even make their own train scedulings work.

Thanks
Nathan

I cannot think of any reason why three Voyager sets cannot run coupled together - the main constraint I would have thought being the length of the platforms, which will prevent them running as such in daily service.

Cheers chris and stephen. That makes life easier, will just make sure that the platofrms that i'm gonna have them park up in accomodate the entire length and then i can get on wih the next part. time to dig up the baseline documents from network rail :)

Cheers

As of late Nathan 1E82 (0740 Rdg-Ncl) has been formed off 5V82 from Barton-under-Needwood instead of Eastleigh T&RSMD if that helps.....

email me what you have at wolvercotejn @ hotmail dot co dot uk and I will have a butchers for you at work when I get a chance.

Mucky waters definitely chucks out some double sets in a morning, both for VT and XC.

Also being a Monday, it could be that Sunday night stabling is different to the rest of the weekday nights.

Hello,

Is this for weekday times as I still have copies of the ECS times for Saturdays 2011 Summer times, however I don't know if the departure times are any different from last year? I only have the Barton-under-Needwood ones but I know putting those in Saltley Sim, I only had a max of paired voyagers. There is one where 3 go to Birmingham, however one is paired and the other leaves shortly after on it's own, these I think were routed 2 different ways.

Some are via Colwich and some aren't, one goes to New Street via Selly Oak and I'm sure one went via Lichfield but I can't find it in my list, might have been a VT Edinburgh Voyager one ECS.
The other ECS is the hot spare for New Street which also runs via Camp Hill.

Do you mean 'units' or individual services here. If the latter, then it's quite simple - two diagrams which start at Central Rivers are formed of two units - one which ends the day at Craigentinny, and the other at Eastleigh. I assume also you've taken into account HST diagrams (specifically for Edinburgh)

but peterb surely the units would be out of sync for following day with less services?

No, overnight at Barton, the two double-formed trains will be split, and at both Edinburgh and Eastleigh, two units will be joined to form one longer train.

I mean units as thats what has to be equalled out. i did take into account the hsts and delt with them first with the diagram that i obtained form the 125group website (same as the fgw hst services)
And if i have 2 unit trains ending at craigentinny and eastleigh, that will increase the number of units parking up for the night at that those loactions, which increases the problem rather than solving it.

And daniel, i did look at it being a monday, if sets were out of place with fewer services running on the weekend, however i also looked at the services coming out of the depots in question on tuesday morning and i still had the 2 discrepencies.
