Hi all ,
Does anyone know if the port for stafford is normal 50505/50507 or a different one like north london line
Also are there any other sims that have a different port number?
Thanks

Lot of information available by searching the Wiki.

Stafford has a bug - clients cannot read the timetables of trains. I do not recommend that you ever try hosting Stafford. The clients can connect and route, but not see where the trains are meant to be routed.

Probably less of a bug and more of a lack of functionality dating from when the sim was written.

The way to do it is for clients to load up another copy with the TT, and use this to read the TT - just like real life.

A while back Joel and myself were considering this for mplay with the 48hr TT that's available for this sim.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

That's not entirely true...early sims, like Stafford and older paged versions of Kings Cross for example, had networking code that used port 4321. In addition, there were no options to change it either so for those sims, you can't just use any port you wish. They also had a different port for chaining sims together as well with each sim using a different port number. I am sure if you looked you could find details of which sims used which ports.

Technically, you shouldn't use anything below 1024 for SimSig purposes, free or otherwise, as they are reserved for specific services. That's not to say you can't just that you shouldn't.

I would like to ask what is the future fate of the older sims? Will they be updated to the more modern standard so that they can continue to be used? Stafford, Liverpool Street, Swindon-Didcot (SwinDid), Westbury - what are the plans for these sims?
Can only speak to Swindid and Westbury, I have control of them but there is at least one issue to be resolved and I have no timetable for that resolution. So it's the usual refrain - ready when ready.

Going back to Stafford, clients could also put the timetables through ConvData and either view them in spreadsheet or text format or perhaps even print it off if desired and refer to it to work out which way trains are going, which might prove interesting as it would be a bit like lugging out a Working TimeTable as if 'the timetable viewing system' has gone down...which is sort of semi-realistic in way.

Stafford is also going through an update. We also do not currently have a timetable for its release.

That's very good news... thanks Chris.

I do hope the old track layout will be kept, or available as an era.
